I've recently noticed a very small black shadow like spot that is appearing on all my pictures, in the same spot. It is more prominent on the video clips that i take using my Canon S2 IS. I have a feeling that a spec of dust may have gotten in while the lens was either coming out of the body on startup or going back in. (Can this happen? is the area sealed? )

I've tried cleaning the lens etc.. a bunch of times but its still there. :(

is there a way for me to open up the camera and clean it myself or do i have to take it to a shop? also does anyone have an idea how much something like this could come to?

Dont even attempt it yourself.. if it is really that distracting then you will need to take it to a Canon service center. Trying to do it could possibly introduce a load more dust onto the sensor and possibly ruin your camera.

no idea of cost though, sorry.

Definitely a dust spot. Take a photo at f/22, and it will really show up as a clear dot. I agree with Simms. On a DSLR, you can have a go yourself, but on a P&S, there's no way to get in short of dismantling the camera, and that's major surgery. Definitely take it in.

Even more annoying is that red circle and arrow. Get them to check that out too. :P

Yup, that red circle and arrow sucks too :)

Thanks for the advice. Let me look around and see if there is a canon service center around Palo Alto,ca
