YUP! (I think we'll be ready for the 7:30, but that kinda depends on how much liquid entertainment occurs the night before. Oh, wait - its only Eric; you know we won't drink much... ROFLPIMP) :D

Well, I have the kids that weekend...and a concert a couple of days later. But, I need to get out of OK for some time, so if I can find a way, I'll definitely do it.

[quote=TCGuru] [quote=Bebe] ...say 7:30 am for the early risers at the Pedestrian Bridge, north end, then whoever is there ontime/early can start shooting. I suspect that anyone with a camera on the pedestrian bridge at that time will be dpchallenge, so we can easily recognize each other.

There's a Stone Cup coffee shop within sight there, so I'll survive the early hour.

We could shoot around there for an hour or so, grab a cup of coffee & then meet any later folk at 9 am or 10 am.

Since I am a visual type person, can we PLEASE get a map link up here for this location. Early in the morning after a 90 min drive in the dark is not a good time to get lost...lol

I have decided to not stay overnight so if you are not staying as well you are more than welcome to meetup with me at my house and ride along.

Easiest path for you guys would be:
I-75 North
I-24 West
Hwy 27 North
FIRST exit after TN river
Right onto Manufacturer's Road
Right onto Frazier Ave/Cherokee Blvd
Right onto Tremont Street
Park near Stone Cup / Quiznos (PLENTY of parking and very accessible)

Stone Cup Coffee House - Chattanooga, TN

LOCALS - I know they could take Market Street... but do you think that's easier? seriously, I'm asking :D

(thanks for the reminder James - thought it'd be more useful to post the directions / map here...)

Think I will park over where we did last time Billy. I will just put that address in the GPS and rely on it. Hopefully it will be right.

yup - exactly, James. I'm anxious to see everyone there!

(Now, everyone PLEASE remember to pay for their parking spaces, so that your car doesn't get 'booted' like ours did @ the last Atlanta GTG) ROFLPIMP :D

So, not to change the subject, but back to the models. Should I cancel them, give them limited time, tell them we don't need no stinkin models, ask them to come hang out with us and not expect photos, or (insert your option here) come up with something else? I'm open to whatever, and am looking forward to spending the time with all of you! Are there some coming that don't get the chance to take model photos often and would still like to give it a try?
01/09/2008 07:00:47 PM · #122
I vote no models but if some here want them there to take photos then I am fine with that. I just won't be taking any model photos that day. Well if they were there I guess you could twist my arm a little. Either way is fine by me. I am not picky.

Hi! Thanks TCGuru for the maps & directions!

I think we better start getting an itinerary together.

Here's what I think we have at either end of the day:

Jan 19

7:30 Early risers meet at the Pedestrian Bridge, North Side (near Stone Cup Coffee Shop)
7:48 Sunrise photography from the Pedestrian Bridge, shooting the breeze & the river
9:00 Meet up with later risers at the Stone Cup Coffee Shop

... whole day to fill ...

5:00 Coolidge Park (also at the north end of the pedestrian bridge) Shoot
5:56 Sunset
7:00 Beers & Burgers at the little pub there on Frazier? I'll get the name.

I think this works out well for everyone, ending up back at the starting point, so if we car pool during the day everyone still gets back to the parking lot.

Okay, for the "whole day to fill" part, am again taking suggestions. here's what people have suggested, and I'm totally open:

... There are many places to photograph around the area but here are some of the places I've been.

Nature & Landscapes:
Chickamauga National Battlefield Mild rolling hills, some split-rail fencing, a few log cabins & some monuments.

Cloudland Canyon in Dade Co, Ga There are a few nice views of the valleys from up there but I've heard the waterfall is non-existent and its a hike down & back up

Prater's Mill A couple of older buildings but some forest-cluttered backgrounds. Nice spillway with a usually smooth surface.

Chattanooga Nature Center (link)

Urban Locations:
Walnut Street Walking bridge (link)

Old City This is where the historic Chattanooga Choo-Choo is . . . well, at least the rail hub that was later converted to a hotel & restaurant on the rails. There are numerous buildings, railcars and tracks around here.

There's a park off Hamill Rd that has some pretty nice trails and a nice quarry with water. Just a suggestion... This Shot was taken at the park with the quarry I mentioned. There is an old farmhouse in the middle of the park, a stream and lots of side trails. Just FYI

Forgot to add: I don't know if anyone else knows of this company, U.S. Pipe that apparently shut down in 2006. You can see it travelling on 24 East, coming from west of Chatt.

Anyway, it is a phenomenal junkyard & falling down factory, with piles of rusted pipe 2 or 3 stories high, etc.

I'm going to contact the parent company to see if there's any way I can get inside to photograph. I doubt it - it looks like massive liability if I can - but if I can get inside & anyone else is interested, we could try to plan that for the 19th as well.

Beryl

Note that I left off any suggestions of the Walnut Walking Bridge & Coolidge Park, since that's where we're meeting anyway.

On my suggestion of US Pipe, I haven't been able to contact the right person yet, but I'll keep trying.

Personally, I'm wide open to doing whatever the group wants. I'll vote for BubbaJon's quarry and Kevin's Chickamauga battlefield & Old City. What do all y'all have in mind? (I just always wanted to say that - all y'all.)

Meandering around downtown will be closest. There is also the free electric trolly from one end of town to the other. We can get off of that at numerous places too >.< hehe

ETA: I don't really wanna drive anywhere... if you guys do, I will probably just stay in the DT area and wait for ya'll to get back.

It's a little bit of a drive, but what about Point Park? (while technically in Georgia, its close enough...)

grrr - can't find a decent link with photos... its on top of Lookout Mountain, same as Rock City, the Incline... wait - why don't we just take the Incline Railway, then walk to Point Park? :D
