I agree with Hotpasta. If the submissions didn't get the challege right, why shouldn't they be voted down? I stopped voting because after 20 or so I only saw one that captured it correctly. If we keep only voting because it's pretty, cute, beautiful, etc, etc, blah-blah and it doesn't even remotely meet the challenge, how the heck is anyone going to learn that the need to follow the rules and/or research the subject more before entering is an important aspect of this site. I'm fed up with being called DNMC police. I'm going to vote the way I see it. So there!

And you'll be leaving, helpful, constructive comments as opposed to just blasting away saying that the field just doesn't cut it so that people can *actually* learn from your vast knowledge, correct?

ETA: My meager, pathetic offering can use all the constructive help it can get.

one comment states it looks like most the bokeh is in the background...obviously they did not look at my entry for very long or they would see that is not the case!

I'm really getting disappointed with my scores lately. :(

Well, I'm done and headed for bed.....I *HATE* dialup!

My votes are posted with a comment that explained my thoughts as best I could briefly. I'll do more later, but I'm tired of waiting.....8>)

You have rated 37 of 170 images (22%) in this challenge.

I hope others will do the same. The commenters on mine have been explanatory.....thank you!

Why do i only have one comment. it really sucks. I agree that at least 50% of people did NOT have foreground bokeh and when they did either the subject wasn't obvious or the bokeh didn't add to the picture. I am actually disappointed in my score. After looking at the other pics i thought i was going to do well, but it looks like its gonna be same ol story. Low scores with no comments to tell me what people were thinking when voting.

Might be my last submission... no point in getting ridiculed without any reasons as to why i was marked this way.

Why do i only have one comment. ...

Give it a little time. It's just finishing the first day of voting. Quite often, comments will come later in the week.

It would be useful if whoever thinks of the challenge actually includes a little more explanation or criteria.

I think that's part of what little fun the powers-that-be get from all this thankless work.......just knowing that we're out here beating our heads against various hard objects wondering if we met the challenge or not.

Besides, with the voters, you could spell it out in 100 crystal clear steps and someone would *still* argue the ambiguity of the challenge description.

ETA: Noticed you have a frog named Houdini.....I have a turtle we named Houdini, 'cause when he was really little, often we'd find him out of the container we had him in, and wandering around the house.

One day we came home to find one of the cats with him and it turned out we had named him incorrectly......shoulda named him Hockey Puck.

A lid on the container fixed that right up!

Still 72 votes, now 78 votes and average below 5 i would expect some comments as to why people gave me a 4. At least more than one. The only comment i got was a positive one, which i enjoyed, but doesn't give me any reason as to why others are voting it so low. If the picture sucks please explain why. Any time i gave a number above 6 i didn't feel the need to comment, but if i gave it a 4 i said exactly why, even if it was not too informative ( as someone contacted me and said ).

Just my 2cents.

::: going to look for my dancing shoes after all :::

Also:

You have rated 128 of 170 images (75%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 32 images (19%) in this challenge.

It's rainy and cold so I will spend at least part of the day voting and commenting some more. With my rose-colored glasses on; they're particularly nice to wear on rainy days.

Best thing to do will be to very politely post a comment request in the Individual Photos forum once results are posted.

i completely agree, and came here to see if people thought the same thing. it seemed like most of the entries were just plain depth of field, or they threw something in front of their subject so they could enter the challenge. i was somewhat disappointed, but i scored three tens which will hopefully make top three as they are three of the few who actually took bokeh pictures!

Ok, so can you find past examples of pictures that are bokeh vs DOF and why they are one or the other? That way maybe people can better understand the difference.

Thanks for teaching...
