Had a shoot today with this youngster for his family Christmas cards. All lit with the 420 bounced off a silver umbrella and the 580 on camera bouncing off the cieling and bounce card. White muslin for backdrop (backdrop stand showed up about 30 minutes before the family did). RAW conversion in Lightroom and then over to PSE2.0 for NI, blurring of background and sharpening. Kept it pretty straightforward and as simple as possible.

We hung up a red sheet as a background for our Christmas family portrait. Here's one of just Jen. Vivitar 285HV with a shoot-through umbrella, very close off camera left. Added left-side vignette in PS.

Can I be in the group?

Took this shot a while ago and just now got around to editing. There is a rusty texture over the top, and then I just burned it a little. I hope I can get some decent new portrait work done in January. I am too busy to schedule any shoots until then...

This one is from the same series. It took the longest to edit, and the result is just sort of blah. Thats ok, you can't win them all.

I love them - especially the baby one. Nice job with the red background and vignetting- works well with a plain/one color background like this.
For Jen's portrait - the light could be a little higher - you could rid of a shadow behind her on the right I think.

I love the red backdrop. I like the composition of both of these shots, but I think the one of Julia has the very best composition.

Had an opportunity today to shoot inside a hangar and inside a plane. The pilot friend of ours was wanting cockpit shots but the cockpit was gutted so we stuck to inside the cabin and outside the plane. More to come, this was just one of my quick faves from thumbnail.

Took some shots of the kids today, using my home-built softbox, plus a garden floodlight as a hair-light. Any comments on the lighting positions? Setup is in the image comments.

Excellent photos. How did you build your softbox?

Shot in a slot tinaja in Big Bend national park, to get even, reflected light all around us. Sun is high overhead in a cloudless sky, but the reflected light from the orange/red stone around us bounces around and gives very even directionless lighting.

Sorry these are coming in one at a time. Not a whole lot of time to focus on a bunch at once.

Nice shots and delightful kids :- )

The only question for me is whether the lads shirt colour and the background compliment each other or not ?

I think i would rather have seen a greater colour difference - but that might just be me :- )

Tim - I know you're a house husband and all that - but your doing this guy's tailoring work as well ?? That's going above and beyond the call of duty :- )

I am sorry about making a big (no pun intended) deal of that, but it was kind of funny. Good photo however. I bet he is proud of it. (the photo I mean)

Don't apologize. It was just after I posted it online that I noticed "something" as well. I thank you for pointing it out, because I probably would have just left it that way thinking it was just me. But you confirmed it - and it was a pretty easy fix. TY!

Some recent images of us Short Family (yes that is me). It is a good thing that my husband and I aren't really that short, then it would not only being our last name, but our own personnel adjective as well. These were taken in a time span of about 30 minutes. The weather changed drastically in that short time. Not sure which one to use for the holiday card yet, though. Any suggestions?

We did some "belly shots" with my son's girlfriend last week.

Here's our favorite, though we got a dozen or so that were really nice.
