I hear everyone complain abot those things, but then, cats are winning, that is the way to go!

The way to go, I think, is with your best effort. In the 9 winning photos on the home page, cats and bugs made it to 2 of them. Soon, maybe it will be all cats, bugs, and babies... but as for now, Look at Setting a Heart on Fire... there is still hope.

Sometimes you can be too literal, other times not literal enough, and other times....who knows how people vote? Ultimately, it boils down to what the majority perceive to be the BEST image.

The only thing older and more tired than cat/bug/flower/kid photos are the people who whine about them.

I think people complain about the crappy pictures of cats, babies, bugs and flowers...

Awwww come on, that's a great cat shot!! :) Granted there are some (ok,lots) of not so interesting shots of flowers, cats, bugs and kids but I'd say that photo is an exception. Very well done! As long as they look as great as that, I wouldn't mind if they were all over the front page!

for example:
by Jacko by JJbeguin

by Magnetic9999 by Joebar

(this coming from a cat lover so my views may be biased) :-)~

It is scary!

when photo like this end up at 13 place....

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes the simplest things can be shot in a beautiful way. I know there are lots of cliches out there, but the challenge isn't to shoot the "least cliche" image - it's to shoot an image that fits a theme. If we stopped voting high on so-called "cliches" then we may as well stop voting. Everything can be seen as a cliche.

Yes Kosta! You are spot on. I need to understand what goes together, lets think...

horse and cart = yes
strawberries and cream = yes
coffee and cream = yes
cookies and milk = yes
fish and cat = er..no, not even if I stretch my imagination

Ok, technically the winner was a very decent photo and I did leave a comment on it saying it might do better with just the fish and water, but perhaps someone can explain how they go together?

Thanks
Mike

hehehe! Too funny, especially since I am one of those whiners! KK's cat shot was an exception I think & I suspected it to win from the get!

As for the flower shots well, it winter! Not much going on outside. The flower/bug shot that won is amazing that's why it won.

Hmm, maybe its because cats seem to have a built in instinct to chase/eat fish?? Loverly pic.

This site should think itself lucky that I have 2 other sites to place my fish pics on! also its probably because the standard is much higher here.

Andi - your right the photo is very good, thats not in question. Cats also chase and eat birds, mice etc but I dont think they go together, maybe I am in the minority with this. I was under the impression the challenge was about things that go together with some harmony - Hammer and Nails etc

I dont know?

Well yes... cats eat fish. :-) That's why they go together.

hehe, I mentioned it in another thread and am sure everybody has the same 'stock' pictures somewhere in their portfolios. As for the cat, I don't own one but do have 'snaps' of some, and bugs and flowers (some with bees on them). I've joined here for 2 main reasons, the first is to learn how to take decent photographs rather than snaps, the second is to actually take decent photographs.

Sounds like Arabs and Jews, water and fire ,sorry but there is no way cat and fish go together!

I was surprised the cat and fish photo won, not because of the quality of the picture - it's really great. Though I thought the flower and bee was better, if it comes to that (but I love saturated colors and the incredibly complexity of flowers and insects both separately and together!). I can see how cats and fish go together, they are predators and prey. I see them as going together in this case, cat and goldfish, because it's a classic combination in any household where people have both as pets. The other classic would have been a cat and a canary, within such a context.

But, what DID seem strange to me was the title - didn't anyone else find it hard to get??? After all, predators and prey are not on the same side, they are natural enemies. So, the title of 'partners in crime' seemed rather odd unless it's the human putting them in the same room or house together that's a partner in the cat's crime...? The fish is just minding it's own business, as far as I can tell. :)

I don't really see anything wrong with taken Pic of Cats, Flowers or Bugs myself.

If it wasn't -40 with 10 feet of Snow here I would be taken photos of flowers too....:)

We are all free to bash certain photos after the challenge is over,so "bring them on" ! :-)

Everyone is buying all these new high-tech DSLR's 5-8 MP toys but recent winners suck so bad, I don't see any progress here!Maybe just because is Monday today! :-(
