Post your outtakes from the Photojournalism III challenge here.

Not really outtakes, but two versions with advanced editing. Couldn't decide between color and black and white, then I realized it was minimal editing, and the choice became more clear with less options.

Edited to add original.

I didn't even get to enter the challenge cause I came home, saw that there was a photojournalism challenge, heard sirens, grabbed the camera and ran! Took lots of pics and when I come back read its jpg only when all I shoot is RAW! lesson learned, shoot Raw + jpg.

Pick a picture. Too many outakes, so they run as a slide show:

To all that figured out which entry was mine during the challenge, I apologize for breaking the anonymous portion of my entry when the TV interview/show was announced, but was so late in the challenge I hoped it wouldn't cause too much of a stir. I was afraid the TV segment would archive too soon.

Thanks for all the support and great comments!

Nick & I will be going back in the bowels of the fires on Friday, this time in fire gear and aboard the trucks. Hope to bring back some more great shots.

Damn son, those are some impressive pics. Plus you got robbed of the blue in this challenge IMHO

I didn't find much interest in chasing the fires like Brad et. al., did. Perhaps the Cedar fire from a few years ago was enough for me, when it came within a mile of my house. This time, I just got a huge headache from the smoke and went to visit my parents. As it would happen, the fire didn't even cross Espola Road and we were Blessed with safety this time.

The day after the challenge rolled over my neighbor's house caught fire. Imagine living in the path of all the fires, dodging that fire and losing your house to some other unrelated cause. You can see the smoke of the fires that Brad has been chasing in the background of the first picture that points North from Poway toward Rancho Bernardo.

I am certain that they would have not scored well with the current competition, so I didn't do any post processing and just uploaded three of them.

I am just glad that my family has been able to volunteer and help out some of those who have suffered great earthly loss from these events. Hopefully there have been some Heavenly gains made.

This was my alternate -- some people commented they'd have liked a tighter shot than what I used (which had too much sky):

What I really wanted was an even wider view to show the expanse of the memorial -- this is a panoramic stitched from six handheld shots:
