Funny, I was watching this earlier today. I haven't been able to stop singing the Alanis version since. I'm driving my wife & daughter crazy.

Or not, which might be making a point in itself. Wouldn't call it genius, but is funny.

I didn't think it was possible to make that song sound so good
10/06/2007 08:58:59 PM · #10
I always hated that song, but that was funny. Of course now I have to put on some real music to get that song out of my head.

Of course, your resident deaf DPC'er has no idea what the song's about. Lyrics, anyone?

R.

N/M : if it's the same lyrics as Black Eyed peas version, I got it :-) Yukkkk...

Bear, it's the same lyrics, just the rhythm is all wrong and well very Alanis.

WOW!!!! I don't care who you are... THAT'S funny!!! I've always respected Alanis, but she just reached a new plateau in my eyes!!!

As with all things, taste is a personal issue.

Didn't like it and turned it off halfway through... Boring and of little redeemable value. I would just as soon watch paint dry.

You made it half way? After realizing the obvious cRAP verbage (I can't make sense of it, other than it just rhyming) and an annoying voice singing it...I quit.

I have no idea who or what the original is...

You've not missed a lot... well maybe some gratuitous TnA, but otherwise just another somewhat catchy pop song.

That's just..... really bad...and not in the good way, either.

I think it's pretty hilarious.

And it's really only funny if you've seen the original music video, which you can watch here:

Original My Humps - BEP

Thanks for the context, movieman, that makes a lot more sense now.

I hadn't heard (of) the song before.

Original - a fairly mediocre Black Eyed Peas track, typical hip-hop style.
Alanis version - solo voice and piano, tempo almost half the original, video clearly satirical, musically about a thousand times better.

THe original version of this song was purile trash. NIce one Alanis, now thats talent for you (although she obviously did this for a laugh).

I heard this a few months ago and it still gives me cold chills to this day...

The You Tube Version

LOL, that's hilarious. Alanis's version is almost more catchy!
10/09/2007 12:32:28 PM · #25
Wow. I believe that qualifies as high satire. I actually wouldn't have thought Alanis was capable of that. It has some bite to it if you view it as mocking the values of the whole hip hop culture. I kept thinking, "this is something Tori Amos should have done".
