Hello,

Which processor is better?

T5250 65 nm 2MB(cache) L2 1.50 GHz 667 MHz(frontside bus)

or

T5300 65 nm 2MB L2 1.73 GHz 533 MHz

On the intel page the 5200 is listed above the 5300

The 5300 is 1.73ghz and the 5250 only 1.5ghz...BUT the 5250 is 667mhz vs the 533 mhz.

which is better for Photoshop...Premiere...etc...?

Thanks,

Kenny

makes no significant difference to software like photoshop.
but if you're a gamer, the faster bus will help, albeit slower by 0.23GHz

I'd take the faster bus speed over the faster clock speed. Working with large files in Photoshop will involve lots of memory page swaps and you're likely to see more of a benefit from the faster bus than the faster clock. I don't know what your purchasing exactly, but it might be worth trying to swing a T5600, fast bus and faster clock.

Probably want to go with at least 2-4GB of RAM if you plan on doing any video editing. Really I'd try to get that much memory "just because" that's the way programs/hardware are going. BB

I agree. My usual recommendation is 1GB per core minimum, so in this case 2GB minimum.

Thirded, your swap file can get pretty huge working with photoshop, having a large FSB, would make things go slightly quicker.

The faster processor speed helps out when running filters or actions though, so there is a definite tradeoff happening here.

I can't use lightroom on my current computer because it runs on the video card so I will be getting the 'gaming' machine when I upgrade (hopefully soon!)

... and even tho I'm not technically a geek, I hope my post wasn't entirely useless! :0P

WonderBread has a point, what laptop are you planning on getting? Does it have a discrete graphics card? What is your budget?

Budget is about a grand...

Toshiba 2gb ram on each machine.
No big name video card on either.

The prices for both machines is about the same, however, the one with the "higher bus" is traded off with 60gb less hard drive space.

I already have the 1.73ghz and I see now that there is the 1.6ghz with more "bus" on the shelf...

....I have 5 more days to make the "swap" according to my receipt !
