Brown Ribbon Deja Vu The same as normal Deja Vu, but with an additional twist - Instead of trying to reproduce a shot that is already a clear winner - find a brown ribbon winner, and turn it into a genuine winner !! Turn it into what the person was (presumably) hoping for.

This does not include disqualified photo's, or your own Brown ribobns.

You may as well call it the 'Leave your Lens Cap On' Challenge.

Ugh. One challenge topic that removes all creativity from the situation is enough imo.

I guess the challenge is just too great.

I think people amy have misunderstood - the aim is to take what someone submitted (and got a brown ribbon for) and do it properly - you know all the secret stuff, like being in focus, well cropped, low noise etc.

This isn't about doing a bad shot badly - it's about taking a bad shot and showing what it could've been.

I like it - and I do think it is a challenge.

Great profile picture Marilon - if that's you I think you should try the silverfoxx route and take some self portraits :- )

I think this is an interesting concept. My only concern would be that the Brown Ribbon winners might feel humiliated when others show how much better their idea could have been executed. Or am I being over-analytical?

I think that's a fun idea, it would be really interesting to see what people could come up with!

I must admit that thought briefly crossed my mind - but hopefully people would see it as an encouragement, in that someone is working with 'their idea' and turning it into a winning photo. Showing what could be achieved with 'their' idea.

When you look at some of the brown ribbon shots it's not neccessarily that the concept is bad - it's often lack of PP skills and maybe soem photography fundamentals,(like not cutting off heads or legs), the essential ideas though can be fine.

This hopefully would be seen as by brown ribbon winners as educational, and I think most people would still be flattered if their picture was chosen :- )

Heck, this isn't a million miles from the PPC idea :- )

Anyone who could take this photo and turn it into a winner deserves HUGE kudos.

Though, I admit - I'd feel horrible if it were my brown-ribbon photo that got redone, and then took last place AGAIN.

I am sure that can be done very easy (I am looking your way "Ribbon Hogs")

...or is it ;)

First, it's a super idea. Second, I have some lovely browns (I think, one of them in contention). Third, I might feel awful if someone took one and WON.

I think it's a great idea... it offers a lot more leeway for creativity than the straight Deja Vu challenge, as it's not asking for a direct recreation.

I know what you mean, but that's not a lot different from the Deja Vu challenge where someone took a ribbon winning photo, recreated it and moved it from blue to brown - so effectively doing the opposite of what I'm proposing here : - )

This is probably the only way anyone would want to emulate one of my photos, so I don't mind either -- and I also have plenty to choose from.

Of course you can enter - you just have to work on someone elses Brown Ribbon winner and try to get it to be a Blue Ribbon winner instead.
