"you call this a photograph?"....

not really,

actually my first comment received was "really strange looking vehicle", in response to a picture of a Buick Pick up Truck I shot at the 100th in Flint, Mi last July. Most people have not only not seen one before but likely did not know that Buick ever made a pick up truck. So from that perspective, the comment was quite natural.

From sheyingshi88 about this picture:

We used to call this 'Frankenstein Lighting' in photo school. You should be gald it's a manikin or she would've killed you. Good shot though.

Comment by BobsterLobster:
Superb picture, and choice of post-processing colouration, but badly shoehorned into challenge with a less than elegant title. I really detest the border however. If I remember, I'll add this to my favourites as I really like the photo, but I have to score it low because of the irrelevance to the challenge. 3

He was right. What he didn't know is that the I was expecting the voting to begin at my midnight and I was looking to see which half of the title looks better. I was so surprised when I couldn't change it anymore.... About the border, I didn't know any better at the time. But after his comment, I made sure to never do it again. So, was a helpful comment even I was so ashamed...

Road kill???? This is a bit too Tom Green for my liking. I like the b&w/sepia thing you have going on, but the subject is just too sick.

Halfway done and this iis my favorite- I guess the challange proves that eggs are hard to get in focus. I think I have to give you a 9 though, the composition is so simple (not easy simple, uncomplicated simple).

The strange thing is, after voting, there were no 9's.

My first comment is from - who else could it have been - Justine. And she is the one, who left a comment on almost every shot I submitted. So, thank you Justine, for your incredible number of comments and for beeing not too harsh all the time ;-)!

--> Pretty cool affect here. Score 6 Justine

My first comment recieved was

Comment by Neuferland:
Greetings from the Critique Club!

And welcome to DPC! Your first challenge entry and it did just fine!

I loved this shot during the challenge, reminds me of my girls when they are really involved in their homework. The biggest thing that jumps out at me with this shot is the lack of a focal point. A depth of Field (DOF) would have really worked well with this shot. Having his face is sharp focus with the rest slightly blurred would really have helped bring the study message home. The black and white on this is a good choice, I'm really starting to appreciate the black and white shots. Though it does seem a bit dark overall. A tad more brightness and contrast would also make this shot pop for me. I see how dark the overall shot is and I want to turn on a light for him, LOL!

The overall composition of the shot is well done. The cropping, while a bit tight works with this shot, in fact I would have cropped just a bit tighter on the left, about 1/2" left of the pencil so you have the pencil in the shot but not so much of the shoulder leading in.

Hope all this helps and if you do any changes on this shot I would love to see them!

Good Luck In Future Challenges!

Mine was from jpsowin (no longer participates) for a photo I wish I had never entered. It's my worst ever, but it did make me see what works on DPC: Here Comes the Sun

First comment ever on DPC: sick

LOL!

Mine was "cropped too much" by quarx. But neener neener neener, it came in 16th out of 168 :)

Here is mine, pretty bad lol :) Really poor resolution for some reason - the result is that the shot is extremely pixelated. It's hard to tell if this would be a good picture, due to the pixelation problem.

I've learned a little since then; not much, but some. BTW, thanx Autool, you were being more than kind.

RickyCleave: Somebody call an Ambulance!

I tried to use "dramatic" lighting on my first picture here. Since it was my first attempt at any photography, I didn't expect much. I thought the comment was pretty funny though.
