Challenges Currently Awaiting Your Votes:

Still Life With Motion
Submissions: 98

S-Curve
Submissions: 144

Soft Focus III
Submissions: 184

These current manageable numbers are so nice for voting and being able to appreciate everyone's efforts. I'll miss them when DPL2 comes around. Just a passing thought, but do we really want to go back to 400-500+ entries per challenge like we saw during DPL1?

I do.

No offense, but the current challenges outside the top 10 (and somtime the to 5 or 3) are really not impressing me at all.

If higher submissions mean actual competition returns, then so be it.

The reason I said 'no' is because when the numbers are so high, all of them are not voted on. There is just too much to go through and one just quits after a certain time. I vote easily through a whole challenge that has fewer than 200 entries. More than that, I want it over with meaning I am not spending enough time one each entry and/or I just do not finish.

Not that anybody around here likes to try new things or even likes the idea of invitational challenges but I wouldn't mind seeing an extra challenge thrown into the weekly circulation that held some requirement before you're allowed to enter. For example, one week the extra challenge could be based on number of comments given the week before (i.e. to award recently active). Another week on highest percentage of votes given vs received. You could also run some master's challenges that required a certain amount of ribbons won. There could be all kinds of incentives used for this extra challenge that I believe would be a value added to the site.

I know some people don't like the "master's" concept but I can't speak for others but I like it when some of the top photographers enter. That helps those a notch or two below them to work harder and get better and so on down the line.
