A series of shots on the BBC website from a guy who attaches a Canon 5D to a kite to take pictures.

Maybe its just me . . but seeing the way kites swoop and dive I would be concerned about having a 5D strapped under it - still he says he's only lost one so far due to it landing inthe sea.
Oh well - that's not so bad then is it ? :- ) |

Ya, what's a 5D between friends...
Still, the shots are pretty sweet. Makes me want to rig something up and try it.

That's beautiful work. It landed in the river, btw, not the sea, if that makes any difference :-)

hmm. I don't know, they don't really seem very special to me. Could've been made in a plane too. A lot more safe for your 5D too.
Somehow it feels like he's got too much money and doesn't know how to spend it anymore. I have to save money for the 5D for half a year. No way I'll attach that one on a kite.

These are much more intimate than most plane photos; the altitude is lower, and the focal length of the lens and the POV are correspondingly more "natural". The kite flies without disturbing anything beneath, also, so it's a very unobtrusive way to do these photos.

These are interesting, because the video monitoring system allows for more control in framing the shot than the typical kite shot.
Here's another site on Kite Aerial Photography. |
