I started our images thread! I will be working all day tomorrow so I wanted to get the thread up and running. My first post is long but I wanted to try to lay the groundwork for the challenge. No need to read it all. Feel free to start posting when the 1st starts for you. :)

I added the last names on the list from this thread I think, but if I missed it feel free to post images. :)

I'd like to join in as well. Better lighting is something I have been trying to focus on...both in the original image and in the post processing. Started a new job recently so my time is more limited than it used to be...but I have found that participating in these side challenges is a great way to learn.

Ok well I am about to embarass myself with my skill level. My friend needed a photo quick for her website, so I took this shot.

This is an unedited file, except for cropping. I have the details in the pic but one thing is that this was a hand held shot. And it seems so flat an boring.
Once I edit this pic I know it will look better, but I'd love to be able to get to the point where I'd have to do less editing. So is that possible with just having no special lighting or tripod?

I don't have much lighting equipment either. I use a single flash unit with shoot-through umbrella, natural light and whatever I can put together. You don't need fancy equipment to get good light, you just need to know how to use what you have.
If you want feedback on a picture just post it in this thread now, I say keep the new thread for photos taken in October. |

question: i don't really have a lighting set-up per se. I try and use natural lighting and whatever else I happen to have handy. Will that work for this challenge? I'm hoping to learn how to make better use of what I have since I don't do studio work. I already have one pic in mind to submit for this challenge because I want some feedback on it - but I took it last week.

This might be useful to people who want to share their lighting set-up, Lighting Setup Tools. It is a PSD file with a bunch of different lights and accessories that you can move around. You can then post a picture of your lighting set-up, might be easier than trying to describe it adequately. |

I will definitely comment on my lighting whenever possible and it would be great if others did as well, especially since this side challenge is focussed on quality of light. |

Yep, I second the motion. It is nice to see some comments about the photo, either a commentary about the subject, what the photographer was trying to achieve, and the specifics of the camera settings and setup (when it applies).

I'll add you no problem. :) I am also trying to set it up as a "loose" 30 day challenge where you don't have to add one every day but when you can or time permits you to actually shoot something with the challenge atleast in the back of your mind :). Welcome |

Waking up early this morn and finally feeling better after a few days of sinus problems I spotted your thread.
Agreed lighting is very key to a photo and I am always in a state of learning. So if the list can stand another added I'd like to participate. Because of general business I will not be able to participate on a daily basis but I can submit on a 2,3,2,3 pattern (a photo on the Oct 2nd then on the 5th then on the 7th and so on) |

I think I'll check out the library if I get some free time, but that book looks good. :)

I think I'll start the thread when I get home from work on Saturday night, so that everyone around the globe can start when the first rolls around. I'll be at work late Sunday which will be the first for many already. Looking forward! I have dialup so I go through periods where I can't upload, and it takes a lot of time to leave very few comments, but I *do* try and if that's okay, sounds like fun and educational.
