This is the wife of a friend. She needed some headshots and this is what I was able to do for her. I definitely need a backdrop and some lighting.

The poses look good but they all seem to be underexposed by at least a stop or so...

(I'm not a photographer...)

I think they get better as you move down them. In fact, I realy don't like the first one. I don't mind the more'serious' shots, but Something wasn't wuite right about that picture. Maybe her mouth is a little bit of a frown, and should be a straight line mouth? Don't know, but I didn't care for that one. The third one though I thought was much better. The parallel and perpendicular lines of her arms, along with the smile and good looks. Made for a nice picture. Just my thoughts :) Oh, and cute girl :)

very attractive woman and with new light and a new backdrop these shots will be good..tell her dark lipstick on thin lips makes them look thinner. A light lipstick/gloss will fill out her lips making it much more flattering. :-)

The images seem a bit dim, and not very lively. The backdrop doesn't bother me.. just the lighting and exposure.
I like the direction you are going in on the last one. However, it is more feminine to show the side of a woman's hand, rather than the back of it.

Goldberry: I didn't know that about lipstick.. thanks for the tip!

I like the last one, the first two less so. I think Gordon is right on the exposure - but you might also want to play with a variety of light sources and hues which will even out her skin tones. Soft white light might work - I'd avoid anything yellow - which would include clear glass.

That said, I like all the poses - they're all interesting. She has lovely face structure and I might try a few unorthodox angles, extreme side (but not profile) and perhaps a slightly "looking up" perspective.

Love to see what you come up in the end.

Thanks for that info. I'll be sure to share it with the models.

I think I'd try adjusting the white balance a bit also.

I like the 2nd and 3rd ones best myself

I like the pose and look in the third shot.

As everyone has mentioned, the lighting and white balance needs to be worked on.

I would try to pull her away from the backdrop more to try and blur out
the background more.

Also I would try different poses like this while repositioning the hair.

I hope that you don't mind that I have reedited your pictures, and if you do please get in touch with me and I will remove them as soon as I can. However in case you are interested then I would recommend editing your picture a little bit more like the colour one that I have done below -- it probably isn't to everyone's liking, but quite a few people seem to blur the detail little bit and lighten up digital camera photos as they do underexposed.
Color

I'm also generally not very good at black and white, but I thought that this one did not look too bad so included it is well.
Mono

I hope that you like them, and I have to admit that my editing skills are not that good but I thought you might be interested in seeing what I thought you could probably do with your pictures rather me trying to describe it. As I mentioned before if you do not like the fact that I have edited your images please get in touch with me.

As a point of note all I did was blur a little bit of detail, editor little bit in curves and brighten the image. I then whitened the whites of the eyes and the whites of the teeth in your portrait.

edit : Damn links

Again I hope you don't mind me editing your shots.

I have quickly adjusted the white balance, using the colour cast tool in photo shop elements and lightened them up using the brightness and contrast tool. Also I ran them through a noise reduction program (neat image) to give them a soft focus feel.

You seem to have some good advice here I think the most important thing, is to be careful with the white balance to make sure the skin tones are correct.

I don't mind the edits. I appreciate the comments.

Thanks,

I think you are right on the money...lighting and background really makes the photo. Keep trying.

TomLewis1980 -- yes but NeatImage destroyed the hair if you have a close look... PhotoShop is just the best at everything :-)
