OK so I am very very excited today, the reason being that I entered my August Free Study photo into a national newspapers weekly photography competition and guess what!!!!!

Guradian Photography

So next time you get only a middling DPC score for a shot you love then dont despair!!!!

If I had a dancing banana I would post it here!!!! Its not too often my photos get called 'otterly brilliant'

Oh and many thanks to cfarrell for the really brilliant advice and ideas she gave me on PP

Excellent stuff Jon - Good job and nice to see a 'middling image at DPC' do well in the outside world...

Surely the unabashed love and admiration of all my fellow DPC-ers is enough.....

What would you say if I told you the prize was a top of the range Canon dSLR???? Sadly it isnt, I get a free 'Rough Guide' of my choice, but sometimes in life its the winning not the prize

Nice work man. Is it published in the printed copy? I've entered the Independent compo from time to time but it doesn't get me anywhere.

Congrats on your victory.

Congrats- I do love this shot. Nice to see you shot it in my home town. The two models are named Nyak and Milo. Nyak on the left was rescued as a pup- she got oiled in the Exxon Valdez disaster. Anyway, congrats.

Congrats dude, just goes to show you that everyone should take their either success or unsuccess here at DPC with a grain of salt cause the real world doesn´t work the same way :)

Congratulations Jon! I love that photo--but didn't come across it in the free study.

I was thinking that... the rest of the world looks at my DPC shots and says "wow", DPC look at them and say "meh...".

It's like the SAS of digital photography.

Sadly it wont be in the printed Guardian but hey electronic gave me enough of a buzz

Also wanted to say thank you to everyone for their kind comments. When people wonder whether they should stay with DPC then I would say that one of the reasons is it gives you a whole bunch of people to share your small triumphs with and that these people understand why you are so happy.

So again, thank you

Well, the image is very sweet (as said in my original comments on the photo). And the PP had nothing to do with you getting it on the Guardian's website. That's the work of a great photographer who didn't let a beautiful moment go by.

Wonderful capture, and many Congratulations, Jon!

Awesome!! Congrats on the non-DPC recognition! It's always nice to get some real-world validation. Keep up the good work!
