Guys, I've not had time to read up on or participate in these side challenges, which makes me kinda sad because I very much enjoy them. I stumbled upon this one by virtue of commenting on a shot I found in raish's portfolio (thanks again, dear!) and I'm really enjoying going through all your pictures! It delights me to see the places where everyone lives and delights me even more to see green and flowers and such! Anything that's not beige-based throughout is a treat, actually.

I may not get to comment on everything posted, but I'll try to hit at least a few. And thanks again for sharing your corners of the world - glad to see so many of you enjoying your Saturdays out shooting!

I planned on getting out early but didn't get a chance till later in the day. I didn't go to far, stayed right in my yard.

I am going to try and do the same.

It was a chilly morning, but the sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky. I walked from my house around our subdivision (which happens in Indiana when a developer buys a chunk of land and puts as many houses as possible on it). It was a very nice walk (which I seldom do, and need to do more), and I enjoyed playing with shadows and lighting. I put a little description with each shot. My shots (in no particular order) are:

I love the way some of you have posted more as a documentary kinda of photojournal. That could be a fun way to have a short side challenge too!!!
I think I am gonna go kick myself in the butt for missing this!!! See ya...ouch..take care ... ouch!!

Don't worry ... they'll be another one next month. Just watch this thread for details. Meanwhile, have fun looking at this month's results, and keep those comments coming! Thanks.

My partner Joe and I walked to this pond which is just 10 minutes from our house. It's just a small pond in the middle of the city, surrounded by a school, hotel, mini-golf and a couple of condo buildings. Usually there are only ducks, pigeons and gulls on the pond but sometimes you will see another type of bird. We saw 3 Greater Yellowlegs, here is one:
[thumb]587586[/thumb]

The side of the pond had a lot of grasses and wildflowers growing around it.
[thumb]587589[/thumb]

Lilypads are growing in the shallow ends of the pond.
[thumb]587587[/thumb]

Though I would try my hand at an impressionism type photo, inspired by the recent challenge.

Here is the pond and that is the little patch of waterlilies I was shooting.

It was a beautiful afternoon, there was a nice breeze and the temperature was around 18ÂșC.

Real Life got in the way of things yesterday, and I didn't think I was going to be able to get out and shoot anything. Finally, I grabbed my camera about 7:30 in the evening and walked downtown. I usually don't go out alone at night, but it turned out very well. We're a tourist destination, and there were tons of people on the streets, and a lot of them had cameras, so I fit right in. Sometimes we need to be kicked out of that box.

I left the house at 6:30 AM. The camera wanted to leave earlier, but I said "Come on. There's not even enough light, yet. Have some more coffee." I was right.

First stop was a new park down the street where I explored for about an hour resulting in these two shots:

Across the street from the park a small business had a few flowers still partially in the morning shadow:

Continuing on my walk, I had the pleasure of meeting this fine fellow and his human partner. As you can see, he was quite curious about how my day was going:

On the way back home I found these blossoms hiding in the bushes next to a busy road:

Three and a half hours later: home.

I left the house with Chris about 5 pm. We only had to walk around the block for me to get loads of photos. It was hard to choose just 5.

I decided to post the selection from my first walk to the beach. It was much earlier in the day. The second walk was overcast and it got too cold for me. In short, I walked out the door, down my little dirt lane to Old Lakeshore Road and followed Middle Lane to our little beach access point on Lake Erie.
I have noticed these types of shots, I wanted to try some.

These are the pieces of beach glass I noticed. Very addictive hobby ;)

Cool staircase going up to a cottage

Apparently I am facinated with this approach.

Had fun doing this!

No one needs to kick you out of any box! You have a very unique and pleasant body of work that is certainly outside the box. Glad I got to finally pay attention to it.

Hello all and a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to EstimatedEyes for this idea and setting it up etc,etc... It was loads of fun.

Down the road from my house for the first one.

So I continue down the hill to the lake just in time for the weigh in at a Small Mouth Bass Tournament.

Still at the park for the third shot.

Moved along the waterfront for shot four. The man who ownes this truck ownes all the land (now 500 feet back) along the waterfront.

Photo five shows a scrap yard. Directly behind me is a huge Waterfront Condo Development. Nice view for the money don't you think?

Details are in the photos. This was a wonderful idea for a side challenge I hope we do it again. It will be fun to see the rest of the posts. I hope you enjoy my images it was great fun getting them.

MAX!

It was a beautiful day, 92 degrees and sunny when I started off and I admit I went to a favorite refreshment location to start where I found this.

A pretentious guardian of the gated community
[thumb]587731[/thumb]

Then on to a near by college where my better half took in the view while I was hassled by security.
[thumb]587734[/thumb]

I can't tell you how many times I sat at the Starbucks across the road from here and swore I was going to stop and photograph this building.
[thumb]587735[/thumb]

I don't know. It just appealed to me.
[thumb]587738[/thumb]

I have a few more in the 'Walkabout' collection. I hope everybody had as much fun as I did with this.

Trying my hand at impressionism

I had a walk just down to the end of my driveway, and these lovely birds were in the field across the road.

I took my walk later in the day about an hour before sunset.

I headed down our road a bit and I took pictures of this old water wheel. Many times I have thought about taking a picture of it but it took a walk about to get me to do it.

I didn't see much more appealing down the road so I headed back up. While walking along the road I caught a glimpse of a pond through some tress.

I walked further until I came to a vacant house where the hidden pond was. I saw the reflections of the trees on the water and liked it so here is the picture.

I glanced over and caught sight of this wacky tree. The things hanging down reminded me of witches fingers.

The house on this property has been vacant for a couple of years now. The older lady that used to live there got sick and passed away. The swing intrigued me because I imagined what it used to be like for the family to sit and look at the pond.

I am inspired to walk more and take pictures even if people think I am a spy or goofy for walking around with my camera.

I've gone a bit abstract and gone for a texture I quite liked, an old door on a house near my girlfriend's house.

All zero editing (and it shows) ;-)

edit: used wring size thumbnail - sorry all
