NOTE DATE CHANGE --- The challenge will now take place on the weekend of Sept. 15-16

I've been thinking about this for a while. The idea is to improve our ability to see an image by forcing us to focus on, and see the beauty in, the mundane and ordinary ... or at least what we often perceive as the mundane and ordinary part of everyday life.

So my idea is to get a whole bunch of people to take their cameras out on the same day, walk somewhere near their home or their work and see what kind of images we come up with.

The first challenge will take place on the weekend of Sept. 15-16. Saturday you shoot, Sunday you post, with the rest of the week to comment and discuss. Please note the change from the previously scheduled date of Sept. 29-30

Here's the rules:

1. The challenge starts from either your home or your workplace. You may not travel to any special location for the shoot.

2. You must leave your home or workplace on foot. No other mode of travel is permitted. To preserve the serendipitous nature of this challenge, pictures should not be taken at your home or work, but should be taken somewhere off the premises.

3. Your picture must be taken between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. (local time) on September 15, 2007.

4. Advanced editing rules apply.

5. Images should be uploaded on Sunday, September 16, 2007. You should post no more than five images. All images should be uploaded in a single post.

6. Please try to comment on as many images you can the following week (Sept. 17-21).

No worries, I'll add you (and anyone else in the same boat) to the list. If you can't make it that day, you can always comment on the images. And, if the first one goes off well and there's enough interest, this could be the kind of side challenge that's easy to repeat, since its not a 30-day commitment like most.

Hadn't thought about that ... I was assuming just one, but who knows what we'll find. Lets say up to 5 images, but put them all in a single post.

Okay, I'll do it. But don't forget the time zone differences mean I'll be able to post when North (and South) Americans are out shooting. ;-Þ

I think myself and motherlee will partake in this preamble around our locale and may even manage a photo or two. Will keep checking.

I'll bump this thread daily in the week before the challenge if it needs it.

I was thinking of doing it next weekend, but wasn't sure of the level of interest and thought folks might need more warning than that. But given the number of sign-ups so far, we could do it sooner. What do you all think about bumping the date up to the weekend of September 15-16? Post your thoughts and if there seems to be general support for that, I'll change the date and update the post.

Not a problem .... maybe you'll give the americas some inspiration for our walkabouts. I'm looking forward to seeing all the neighborhoods where we live and work ... hoping to get a lot of participants from Europe and, of course, Down Under, where they know all about walkabouts. ;>P
