It seems like nobody else is going to do it, so I thought I'd come up with some icons for the Division Winners for DPL1. I'm not so hot at clipart though and every time I enter something with text I get voted down, so if someone can do something better, I'm more than happy to go with that.

If you like them, Division winners can feel free to post them on their profiles.

I think Art should make burning torch icons for the winners...

Jason, you have gold, silver, bronze... but the "winners" are the first place finishers in each of 3 divisions, not 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Now first, second & third in each division would work.....

Gold, silver and bronze represents the stratified nature of the divisions with the highest averaging teams in Division A, the middle teams in Division B, and the lower teams in Division C.

That's nice of you, Jason.

I agree with idnic, though. The teams are each 1st place finishers. They didn't compete against each other, so it's not appropriate to separate them.

We have four levels in our ultimate frisbee league. The champs are champs, not champ, champ*, champ**, and champ****.

FWIW I agree with DrAchoo 3rd devision should be bronze, doesn't make it any less special, & finding out who came in 3rd in each devision is quite hard

Sorry, but Bronze equates with 3rd place, not third division.

Well, you are always going to find 10 opinions if you ask 6 people on DPC.... :)

I certainly get the argument, but I also get the argument that it wouldn't be fair for the team that beat other teams whose average was 6.2 to have the same prize as the team that beat other teams whose average was 5.2.

To me, the stratified argument won out, and I was the one that made them. :) I'm still open to other ideas though.

ETA I also think they should be Gold for all division winners.

Ya, the more I think about it, the more I think the gold is fine. It does say the division right on it so people can see a difference. Seeing the silver trophy might make people think there is a gold Division B trophy out there somewhere (which of course isn't the case).

I'll redo them when I get the chance later tonight.

I have to bring up the argument of Varsity vs. Junior Varsity here. The winners of each division gets the same color trophy or ribbon, even though Varsity would be expected to kick JV's butt if they went head-to-head. Having the division written on each cup signifies the difference well enough, I would think. I also think it was really nice of Jason DrAchoo to make the cups to start with, so please don't think I'm busting on you here.

Edit to add: Jason beat me to this post, so it is now a moot point.

Why don't you make the 1st division winning trophy more ornate, the second a little less so, etc...? Just a thought.

BTW - I think it is pretty cool to have the trophies - nice idea Jason!

Well the trouble with Gold, Silver, Bronze is that the runnersup in Division A, say, might feel a little slighted when they lost to the "Ribbon Hogs" but might have beaten everyone else in the tournament... I haven't studied the stats but for all I know the team that finished second in regular season to Ribbon Hogs might have beaten everyone else too...

The damned thing is set up so there are winners in 3 divisions and no overall rankings. If you're going to give trophies, make them gold for each divisional winner and be done with it.

Not that it means a whole lot but leagues setup like this almost always award the top division the better trophy at least in the U.S. anyway. About the only exception would be little leagues.

The closest parallel I can come up with to DPL is Bowling Leagues. They have divisions according to skill, and the winner of each division gets a similar first place trophy. The runnerup in the top division would take extreme umbrage if the winner of the second division got a silver trophy, the winner of third division got a bronze trophy, and his team got no trophy. Because his team, he would say, would beat either of the others if they were matched, which they never were.

So where you have divisional play like this, the winner of each division is more or less equally rewarded as far as trophies go. It's not correct to imply that the Division 2 winner is the "runnerup" on the season, and a silver trophy does just that.

I vote for three equally valuable, coveted, and attractive trophies.

This reminds me...remember the AP and UPI college football polls (in the U.S.)? Each one crowned a (sometimes different) champion. They were both champions from the same division.

I think Konador's trophy art is super. Let's keep our resident artist busy!
