Love - 7/10

I watched this because I love Angels and Airwaves and Love part 1 is favorite album. Absolutely beautiful cinematography and music and well acted, however the plot was lacking and unoriginal. I was confused at times what was going on and the ending just leaves you wondering. I understand the message it was trying to convey but I feel as if it just fell a little flat. It wanted to be 2001 but it was without being nearly as epic. so many other movies hit this same premise and message home, I really wanted it to be great and I felt as it was about to get there but never hit the point home.

Dawn of the planet of the apes 5/10

I was looking forward to seeing this after it got a 91% at Rotten Tomatoes, so I ponied up for the full 3D XD big theater experience. Well acted, beautifully shot, amazing use of locations......what am I forgetting? Oh ya, a plot and some decent dialogue. Those were not in the movie. Andy Serkis in full monkey mode has better lines and more nuanced emotions that any of the actors playing humans. Someday Gary Oldman will get another decent role, but here he plays a paper thin bad guy cutout. The poor guy can act but no one seems to want to give him a role with any meat on it.
The plot, well we know where we have to end up, but these cardboard deep characters seem to be in a massive hurry to get from A to B. If you are going to see it, see it on the big screen, because without the bells and whistles showing off the fancy CGI, you will be forced to follow the plot, and that is just too painful.

Your review is spot on from my perspective too Brennan. I thought it was just okay even with a huge screen in 3D. I was more into the killer bag of chocolate popcorn I was eating than the movie :)

Blood Diamond
Blood Diamond Gore was pretty bad if you don't like the blood and violence, based on the true story, I would give it a 8-10.. it was pretty good, but not a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio.. I really liked the ending to this movie though..

Transformers
Transformers
I have liked all of these movies, this one was extremlllllyyyyyy long, I was not happy about it being so long and got bored with the extreme graphic stuff that was going on consistently, got me motion sickness for a few parts LOL (not in 3d)... but still a good movie and it could have been worse... not one of my favorite transformer movies though, 6-10

Lone Survivor Watched that last night
9-10 .. a lot of blood and violence, but it brings home to what goes on in the war.. was not expecting a lot what happened in this movie and it was a shocker (had to close my eyes a few times)
Alot of emotional energy...but I think this is a manly movie must see because it does have a lot of musculanility energy in it. ( ooo Def. not a flick chick movie, or relationship love thing +1 for men! LOL!)

FYI on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: I haven't seen the finished movie yet, but I did get to be in a test audience and we saw it before most of the special effects were finished. You mostly saw Andy Serkus with little dots on his face, a strange device on top of his head (that reads the dots), and a jumpsuit kinda thing with more dots. Several of the other key apes had this same set-up, and let me tell ya, those apes can act! So what you see of Caesar is 95% Serkus' acting, with some CGI thrown on top. It was fascinating! Yes, the plot was lame, but I gotta say I really enjoyed seeing the movie before it was finished. By the way, Momma ape wears blue fingernail polish. :-)

The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz 9/10
Kind of an arbitrary rating. This is a documentary - the kind that makes you very sad, but even more angry. Some things I wasn't aware of and some that I was.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

9/10 - Visually stunning with a great cast makes this film one of the finest I have ever seen. It's a treat for the eyes. Go see it

Agreed. Saw it a week or so ago. Very fun and (as mentioned) visually stunning movie.

Just saw guardians of the galaxy and it was amazing. 9/10 for fun movie, 7/10 for originality (nothing is original but this is a c-list comic and new to movies)
Was handled well without feeling the need to bore with backstory and flushed out the characters by giving them time to do so on the screen in the context of the progressing plot.

Ida saw this about three weeks ago... it's shot in b/w, not that that in itself makes it beautiful but it is. Definitely worth seeing. 9/10 for me

We also saw Snowpiercer. While the story is rather derivative, the photography is worth thinking about... quite claustrophobic. Ultimately a 6.5/10 from me, but I'm not a real science fiction fan.

El Infierno (aka El Narco)

Benjamin Garcia, Benny, is deported from the United States. Back home and against a bleak picture, Benny gets involved in the narco business, which has for the first time in his life, a spectacular rise surrounded by money, women, violence and fun. But very soon he'll discovers that criminal life does not always keeps his promises. Epic black comedy about the world of Mafia and organized crime.

8/10 - Violent but a lot of dark humour - well worth watching

THE MUPPETS MOST WANTED

Ok who doesn't love the muppets.. This is one of the better movies since Jim Henson Passed and I tell ya, I laughed.. very adorable and it is like the muppets are back with the goofy songs again. While on a grand world tour, The Muppets find themselves wrapped into an European jewel-heist caper headed by a Kermit the Frog look-alike and his dastardly sidekick.

I rated this a 7-10

The other woman

The other woman was much better than I thought!
My hubby actually picked it out and we laughed.. it was so funny! Not one that I would have paid to see at the theaters, but the comedy is hilarious.. what revenge and payback too! This is a def. must rent movie...After discovering her boyfriend is married, Carly soon meets the wife he's been betraying. And when yet another love affair is discovered, all three women team up to plot revenge on the three-timing S.O.B. I also loved the fact there was hardly no swearing/ cursing, it was a really decently made movie

8-10

In Bruges (watched again after a recent visit to Belgium). Top film, 10/10.

The Hunter (2011) - subtle and beautifully filmed, Dafoe owns this. I loved the silence.

Coherence (2013) - one of the better SF stories lately. Suspenseful mind-bending film.

Both highly recommended.

No love for Guardians of the Galaxy yet? Man. That was the most fun I've had at the movies in a long time.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 9/10

Didn't see it in 3D or iMax, but did see it on the big screen. I had relatively mediocre expectations, but was thoroughly entertained throughout the whole movie. Acting was good, the gags were funny, the story was decent and the visual effects were terrific. Two thumbs up from each of the two 8yo boys I went with.

RyanW gave it a 9/10 a month ago...

I agree. My sons and I loved it (of course), but so did my wife, which is a bit more amazing.

NOVEMBER MAN
7/10
It was good. Not great but a lot of action and had a 007 vibe.

Gravity
5/10

Audio of Sandra Bullock moaning and heavy breathing is to distracting - hated it - for me to appreciate anything else

Ride Along - 3/10
Thought it would be funny and entertaining - I must've been high - and even that didn't help.

300 Rise of an Empire - 3/10
I really liked the original 300. This one felt like a parody of the original. ...and not a funny one.
