Some friends of mine asked if I would take some shots for their CD cover. They decided on Anaheim Stadium where the Angels play.

Angels6 ! I like the whole red thing , also it's more of a portrait , especially the way their "attitude" comes through .

One vote for Angels 6

The last two of those look the most cover-like to me. I suggest leaving out all explicit references to the stadium name, although since it will no longer be Edison Field maybe it's OK.

Remember it will have to be cropped to a square, and you need someplace to put the writing.

6 for sure. but i think 5 would be really cool made a little less opaque, and put in the back cover with the song list down the left side.

Angel 6.

Angel 6 is good - but if you're using it across the whole CD cover (roughly 4.75" square) it's going to be a nightmare to crop. I guess you could add a coloured strip at the top/bottom to make it like a widescreen movie or something. :-) If the plan wasn't full cover though, obviously you'll be fine.

EDIT: I wouldn't like to go against the likes of Tim and Jacko, but I'd have done something like this personally. I'd probably have changed the text above the stadium to the name of the band, or something similar and bumped up the text contrast to match the artists. There's also plenty of real estate to add text/etc as needed.

My vote is for 6. It looks great!
I did a cd cover, recently. They wanted it at the coffee shoppe while they were performing and also in b&w/sepia tones. Turned out great, but I would have rather it be colorful like yours! Good job!

from a recording engineer, photos like these work better on the inside of the jacket as opposed to the cover. The shots are cool but not cover appropriate.. check out some covers of their fave artists/muses, might give them some more ideas.

GoldBerry, I'm curious. What type shot is cover-appropriate?
I know the cover I did wouldn't have been my first choice, but the customers did the choosing and wanted a certain background look.

All of your shots really turned out great, I would go with the last one, I beleive it's #6 for the cover, and have the rest inside of the booklet. Nicley done.

That's kind of hard to say, obviously it varies. When a group comes to you wanting a specific look, if it's not your choice, try offering up some new and fresh ideas since most artists only know their own tastes - not the consumer's taste which can be two entirely different things. These shots just don't say 'cover' to me, but I agree with everyone else that if it's what they've chosen, then #6 is the winner.

P.S. it's not your ability in question, you did a good job doing what they had asked for.

While we're on the subject, how does this work?Cover
It is not for sale, just for her CD from Voice instruction, but we wanted to make a nice copy for her as a keepsake.

Cute, she's cute, too. FOr me, my problem with young female singers comes from the marketing and producers pushing them to look like mini-britneys. But this cover doesn't really do that, it shows a little corner of skin but that's nit-picking and she looks vivacious and personable, I like it.

As a part time graphic designer I really like 5 and 6. I have done several cd covers in the past for rappers and Djs here in Chi. If you want to talk and go over some ideas send me an email and we will chat!
