The paint has began to peel from my Sigma 70-200mm lens...

It began very suddenly about 2 weeks ago...

Is this something I should be worried about? Should I send it back to Sigma? What causes such a thing? Is it just wear and tear from usage?

I would send it in, that shouldn't happen. As to the cause, god knows, but probably some defect in its makeup or application. Regardless, I'd send it in.

and tell them it had a "L" on it too but that peeled off first, you demand you get an L lens back lol

I thought that paint was like baked on there somehow...that is really weird.

I would at least email or call them to see if they will do anything about it and if it is a common problem. If it is still in warranty, they should fix the problem or replace it. The way it looks at the back is definitely a problem of the paint not bonding to the lens properly. Be happy that it isn't on the inside.

Is my monitor calibrated right? My 70-200 is black....as I thought they all were.

If it's a sigma, it's quite common :p

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. The paint is coming off my 70-200 Sigma pretty badly, too. I've been wondering the same question about whether Sigma would do anything about it or not.

Both my Sigmas are black and neither one is 'painted'. The focus and zoom rings are both black rubber. There's no paint to peel off on the entire lens.

In either case, I'd call Sigma about it...Contact info

I can promise you there's paint on the 70-200 sitting next to me. Or at least there *used* to be paint there...

This is crappy manufacturing. The components weren't properly cleaned before painting. No excuse for this. Send it back if under warranty. When you get it back, sell it and get a Nikon. lol

Just kidding. I've got a Sigma Macro lens and it's 5 years old with no crap like that. So I bet Sigma will make it right for you.

are you talking about the rubber coating on the lens, or the paint underneath?

There are sections on this lens that are not rubber coated and the paint is peeling off those. Sigma Australia agreed to examine the lens... but I live in South Korea now, so I'm going to contact Sigma here today.

i may well contact Sigma then, if they believe it to be a problem..

This is a very common thing with all Sigma EX lenses, I have a few friends that have the same "problem". It's also happening to my Sigma 20mm f/1.8.

Yeah mine too...but only on the ring.
