What online photo printing services do you use for senior portraits? I am going to so my sons' senior pics and want a top notch end product. This may be something I'd like to pursue for future business so I'd like these prints to not look like they came from Walmart or the corner drugstore.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I thought you meant senior as in elderly. Was wondering why you would need a special printing place for photos of elderly people.

I print mine at Sam's Club (same as Walmart) and they turn out fantastic. I'm very happy with them.

dpcprints (if you are a member), adorama, and smugmug have all done super work for me.

The wal-mart here does okay, mostly. A couple of times, though, I sort of cringed.

if you want to do it for money, use a Pro Lab. There are lots out there. They support the pros and only make money if you make money - so they care a LOT.

I hear costco is good. Online MPix should be good.

Whose handling color correction? You or the lab? If you let the lab handle it then it should be correct...in theory. If you handle it make sure you have a calibrated monitor and the lab know NOT to CC - the prob with consumer labs is they don't pay close attention to all this. Perhaps they calibrate weekly, some do twice a year - a pro lab will calibrate DAILY if not more often (change of paper, etc)

You can often get the output calibration file for costco machines and use that in PS to get the proper output, so those that do it that way tell me. The costco output i've seen has not impressed me. It's not bad, but it doesn't "POP" the way a pro lab does.

Tally another vote for mpix.com

Excellent quality at a reasonable price and very fast turnaround.

mpix.com gets my vote. I have used snapfish.com, shutterfly.com and smugmug.com and even my local Walgreens, and they are fine, but they do not compare to mpix.com for me. In fact, I keep side by side comparisons of prints to show examples to my clients of the quality they can expect.

another mpix vote. SmugMug/EzPrints are nice but they don't compare to mpix.

Dang, I musta got a bad batch or something. It seems like the one or two times we used mpix, the results were not all that great. Definitely not noticeably better than anyone else.

Maybe I need to try them again?

When you say a bad batch, what was wrong with them? I love MPix.

MPix is the consumer/online division of Millers - the largest lab in the country.

Other good ones are H&H ColorLab(pro only, #2 lab), whcc (I think they'll take non pro clients). I've used Apollo Imaging for books, but they to prints as well. ProFilmet.com is pro only as well, and cheap, but the customer service suffers at times.

I really like Bayphoto.com. They are fast, quality is good and shipping is $1.50 for orders over $12. They also pack the stuff for shipping so it could withstand a nuclear blast. Sometimes it takes me longer to opent the stuff than it did to order.

I have used mpix and it was OK, nothing special. Their canvas prints suck. I don't know if its changed, but they don't print on canvas, they put a print on canvas. Bayphoto does very nice canvas on stretcher frames. mpix does the best business card specials every once and a while.

Profilmet is pretty cheap. They have the best deal on 8x10s hands down. Can't beat $1. Everything else is right around the same as the other labs.

I wouldn't recommend Wal-Mart or Sams club for any pro photos. I tried using them for some personal photos a few times to check their quality for pro prints. The 4x6's turned out well, color was good on all photos, but the enlargements were horrible. I had sized the photos exactly for what I wanted(8x10, 5x7) in Photoshop CS. In the printed photos the 8x10 cut off half way down into the forehead and completely cut off the arms posed across the bottom. The 5x7 cut off the hair and part of the arms.

I have heard good things about Mpix and White House, although I don't have any experience with them. I personally use www.myphotopipe.com. Everything I have ordered from them has come out perfect.

Up until a few months ago we had a camera store here in town that did great prints. Now we are down to Walmart or Walgreens. Because they all use the same machines and paper There really is no noted difference. Except in price, Walmart is usually a few cents cheaper.

I never had a problem with cropping on photos at walmart, however I have had a problem of them giving me a 8x10 photo that was really off color, They said it was the file on the disk corrupted, So I took it straight over to the kodak photo machine put disk in and file came up with no corruption. Then someone else behind the counter said they ran out of Magenta ink earlier that afternoon while doing a big print and forgot to print another. They printed a new one right away and all was well. I do however miss the local camera store even though they stopped selling anything I really needed.

They went canon exclusive and 3 months later went out of business. hmmmm? lol

my problem is you can't find anyone that die cuts 2.5x3.5 wallets with rounded corners.

I am using SMUGMUG, but i am not so sure if it is user friendly enough for the majority of the people I am selling prints to. They have done some recent changes to the interface, so hopefully it gets better!
