So is this a go or not? I personally think it should be in Toronto because it is central to most of ON.

That being said, I live in Peterborough which is actually between TO and Ottawa so we could use Peterborough. :) Please not belleville, it is (sorry if you are from there) one of the most boring places in ON. Even somewhere else along the lakeshore would be good, it is apple harvest time in the brighton area for example.

Ok. where and what time?
09/28/2007 10:12:32 AM · #54
Dang, don't know now if 6th feasible for me now as I will be just returning from time away from home/work etc. Maybe if we think now about scheduling another GTG in spring, after this one?

i'll be there - i'll be in a hotel downtown - not sure which one yet - whichever has the best bang for aeroplan points! so, let me know where and when - i have not ideas, as i've never really been to T.O. just let it be doable on public transit, eh?

Location to be determined by OP.

October 6th is okay for me for dates - I can't give a definite "I'll be there" though until I know the location.

Snaffles - I really hope you can come. And xianart too. Two of my favorite DPCanadians :D

I'm not from Ontario - but I'd love a reason to visit. Depends on when, though - money constraints and all. I can't even do the Ithaca one right now...stupid bills.

Stephanie, where in NY are you?
09/28/2007 08:47:36 PM · #61
Maybe we should start a new thread cause maybe I could manage a Northern NY, ie Ogdensburg/Watertown GTG...

A Toronto GTG would be great fun, but unfortunately I already have family plans for October 6th as part of the long holiday weekend.

We are taking our coach out for a weekend in a Provincial Park to walk the dogs in the woods and to see the fall colours of the leaves. By the way, I was north of Oshawa today and the trees are already turning. So, it seems that they will peak earlier than normal this year, likely due to the dryness of the summer and the higher than normal temperatures?

Let me know if you decide to reschedule this GTG?

Cheers,
Michael

Centre Island is great for skylines of T.O. The Credit Valley Conservation area (although a bit far out of the city) around Caledon and Belfountain is really nice. 'Course, if you decide on Niagara Falls, I'll be here waiting. :-)

Cool David!
I'm in the Buffalo area...kinda eager to meet with other photographers. I don't have camera buddies. PM me if you like.

Is there a cost for Center Island ? I've never been.

The only cost is for the Ferry ride to the island, the return trip is included in the outbound charge. The last time I took the Ferry, it was about $5.00 per person. They have a different schedule now that the peak summer season is ended, so you are well advised to check their web site.

Also, be sure to indicate exactly which Ferry everyone is to take as there are three routes - Hanlan's Island, Ward's Island and Centre Island. You would not want to take the wrong Ferry as the walking distance is about 5 kilometres in either direction to Centre Island.

Temperature can be somewhat cooler on the Islands compared to the City, so dress in layers in order to accommodate any differences.

Needless to say, I love the Islands and have spent many hundreds of hours over there walking the dogs, sailing my boats and generally enjoying the summer months. As a result, I have captured many wonderful photographs taken over there. Be sure to check out the haunted lighthouse too.

I'm all for Center Island, and October 6th.

Just tell me when to be there, and how to recognize other DPC'ers - I'll be the one with 3 little monkeys (umm, children I mean) in tow.

Are the ferry's foot-traffic ferry's or vehicle ferry's ?

Foot. You can't take a vehicle there without a special permit. Maybe to Ward's Island.

Thank you - I still don't see on that link where it says no vehicles, but that's okay - we enjoy hiking and walking.

It looks like a nice place to take the kids too.

So - is anyone going to go ?

Sadly, I can not make it this weekend as I am already committed to go out into the wilderness camping. We have a new Coach with lots of toys to play with including satellite Internet. So, if any interesting images result from walking the dogs in the woods, I will post them for all to see.

Have fun at Toronto Island.

Cheers,
Michael
