er, I think f5 hid it. you should press it again.

Try deleting your Temporary Internet Files, then close and re-open IE.

and if F5 doesn't do it, try Ctrl F5

hmmm... odd... I've tried F5, Ctrl+F5, deleted Temporary Internet Files (cookies, right?), closed, opened, had to login to the site... nothing changed, no menus... rather strange. been on DPC with IE for a year now, nothing like this happened before.

I think your computer might be on drugs. It might be time for an intervention.

Those menus are something that is not simple HTML, so it is probably a problem with some update that you might have done. I would try updating your browser if it is not current, and then re-installing(repairing). If that menu is java, then it could be your java or any number of other things.

Make sure you've enabled Javascript in your IE options.

Is there a coffee and book store called the "Javascript"? That would be cool.

Dude, can I use that?

Use at your own risk.

All my ideas seem good, but then usually flop...lol

I'm really surprised that you got this many responses and NO one has suggested switching to Firefox or something else. This usually happens within the first two responses lol.

btw I am in NO way suggesting that, never used them, probably never will.

other than that, I'm no help...good luck.

Firefox is the bomb.

Use safari. That will do it.

lol, that's too cool! :)

I even upgraded the IE to 7... still no menus. But I really suspect something went wrong during my last Java upgrade. But all Java's checkboxes are checked... no idea.

re-install java.
08/23/2007 11:07:53 PM · #15
Well... Java is different to Javascript. Support for Javascript is built-in to the browser. Java on the other hand is the thing you download from Sun and it runs as an applet inside the browser.

Menus and things like shopping carts generally need Javascript enabled. The DPC menus use Javascript as far as I know.

Oh... before I forget... //www.getfirefox.com

You still need Java to run Javascripts (the program not the coffee shop). Or at least that is what I think. I pretty much don't know much about that. For all I know that menu might be some other script type.

you better tell me how I should delete Java first to reinstall. I upgraded Java. Didn't help. In IE prefs Javascript is enabled. :(

Not true actually. You don't need a standalone installation of Java in order for JavaScript to run in Explorer. The two are mutually exclusive. junior_z, upgrading or deleting your standalone Java installation will not help you with this problem.

I think you should just give up and buy a mac.

Actually have you checked your pc for spyware. This sort of sounds like the thing that spyware would do.

i don't think this problem is related to java, but you can give it a try. Uninstall the Java runtime environment from your control panel. re-install.
From what you are saying, the problem has nothing to do with your OS or your OS applications since firefox works. It has everything to do with your IE though ;p

yesterday I have purchased and installed a new, licensed NOD32 version... Ad-Aware is also active. hardly any virus or spyware, at least I believe so.
well, thank you all and Jason for advice... I'll better start getting accustomed to Firefox :/
Gotaka, I'll try that also.

Have you said anything bad about anyone with a colorful little icon next to their name lately? Just a thought. =D

Also have this one computer with the exact same problem. It's a friends actually, a power user. Something might have been changed in the registry. Tried many options which included reinstalling Java. The IE6 on that PC also had problem with Gmail and a few other sites. Will try get on it and see if anything comes up. Trying to re-install IE might do the trick. May I ask which version of IE are you using?

In the morning when I discovered this problem, it was IE 6. Then, as I mentioned in this thread, I upgraded to IE 7 SP2, the latest version on Microsoft site. Didn't help at all.
Techo, please, let me know via PM if you find a clue how to solve this! Thank you.
