Competition is good! Whether you're a Canon or Nikon or Pentax or Mattel Barbie Camera user. Only thing it's bad for is your bank account...:D

So they say. It's all rumor until it actually hits the market.

They'll need a FF Nikon at the Canon 5D price point to really make an impact.

ISO100 too, as a LO option.

Actually, I will have thought of something lower than ISO 100 (ISO 50 maybe?). But certainly not ISO 200 for sure, that will be a stepped down.

JP laments as well, Erick. I've been eying Canonization for a while now ... what to do? What to do?

To be Canonized you gotta get the assent of the Pope and the Cardinals...or B & H :D

Wait a minute, you're the one who switched from Canon to Nikon, aren't you? That's why you don't have any staying power. ;)

I keep telling you it will be 1.1 crop factor.

Nope I have been a Nikon guy since the beginning. But if they don't get this right I am gonna have to do some serious thinking. I love my Nikon glass and I have some spendy lenses but I need my team to stay on top of the tech curve.

I mean back to ISO 200 and only 12mp COME ON! I want at least a 1:1 with 16 to 18mp, preferably full frame ISO 100-6400, 18mp, 7-8fps, SD card, and wifi. I mean really is that to much to ask?

:-P

Oooops, sorry I got you confused. I don't really get too hot on the Nikon/Canon thing, but I do admit to egging it on from time to time. We'll just have to wait and see what the announcement brings. It might not happen tommorrow. It doesn't matter to me as I don't have the dough for anything they announce. I'll admit to briefly considering selling all my Nikon stuff just to get a 40D once I heard it was 14 bit raw. That will make a fairly big difference in the output. Canon hardware doesn't fit my hand as well as Nikon and that's probably the one thing that keeps me from changing brands. But.... after seeing Canons 40D, I believe Nikon will skip the 200s and got straight to the D300 with Foveon type technology. It's fun to speculate on this stuff.

If Nikon wants to destabilize Canon, they would have to provide something quite a bit different from the new Canon 40D.

Indeed, a sensor with a 1.1x crop factor will do it, so let's say:

- 12.8MP, 1.1 crop factor (number of MP does not matter very much)
- ISO 50-3200 (boost 6400?)
- 6fps (6.5 is not by much of a difference)
- Improvement of the buffer
- Live View (well, I could careless if Live View was not included, but it will since Canon has it).
- A very well built camera, well positioned button, excellent ergonomy (D200 has excellent features, far superior to most dSLRSs)
- Anti-dust sensor ? well maybe, but this is more gadget IMO! Also more moving parts requires more maintenance (because a mechanical failure is more likely to occur).
- Price range: 1400-1600$

I would love to see a combination of an anti-shake sensor with a VR lense? Is it possible to do so?

Where's the bottle of Cielo and keg of Victory Ale in that list? ;)
