Pick a photo of yours that was a turning point for you, good or bad.

Some examples:
- First photo that made me realize that I really enjoy taking black&white portraits.
- My first ribbon photo at DPC.
- It was with this photo that I realized that I have a lot more learning to do before going pro.

I'll start.

This was the first photo that received a 'Not Bad' rating from my toughest critic, whose opinion means a lot to me, my wife. It gave me hope that my photos can affect/inspire others, besides myself.

Now your turn.

First photo that made me realized abstract does not work here.

Emotionally, the deepest portrait I have taken, and was by chance a true candid, with camera at chest-level, in burst mode, clicking away as I walked past him . All the ribbons and favs and stuff are cool and glad others like them, but as pretty as landscapes are, they will be there tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day.
People often aren't.
Can't turn the clocks back on people moments.

i would say its this one. when i took this picture i was really new with the whole world of photography. i mean, i knew i liked photography, but i didn't know why. as i was taking this picture a very elderly man was walking by with a cane... he looked very wise... he watched me for a second and then said to me, "you have a great eye, you keep that up". it was at that point that i realized that i was seeing things that most people didn't see... :). and thats fun :)

This was the entry when I told myself that if its not scored well by voters that it does not invalidate the photo, still one of my favs
and

this was a photo that TOTALLY tanked for reasons i would agree with but i dont think i would do it any differently, still love it, taught me to be true to my eye.

This photo won first prize in a local contest which was judged by pros and could also be entered by pros. It really validated for me that I could take shots that other people appreciated....people who didn't know me personally, but was simply judging the photography.

This is the first photo that I took (and processed) that looked basically like what I wanted it to when I went out and shot it. It is the first photo that made me get goosebumps from disbelief that I could do this. It is the first photo that I took that I sat and just stared at for an hour...

This was my first photo that I looked at and said "Hey, I could get into this photography thing!" It was quite a surprise. Very little thought went in to taking the shot, because I was busy with taking other photos, and turned around, and thought, "Wow, that light looks cool", snapped a shot, and went back to what I was doing. :) The shot is pretty much straight out of the camera.

Some great photos and even better turning point stories here so far. I am always very interested in the story behind the photo.

I shot this image in 2003. That day I decided I could learn & do more with my camera than just shoot my kids birthdays. I got serious and I haven't slowed for a moment since. :)

First photo which I used post processing to touch up. The score I was receiving before this photo was a 4.5s - 4.8s

It would have to be this one with my first digital camera Kodak DX6490......

"Agave Blue"

Followed by the second one, with my Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT, due to technical and processing skills.

"My Passion"

After I shot this one, I thought damn, I really can take a good looking photo, then it went downhill, lol

I hadn't won a ribbon at the time so getting favorites from THOSE guys was like winning one.

A close second would be the DNA shot. It's probably my most creative shot I was actually able to pull off and getting a fav from Shannon was a real treat.

My first ribbon and the reason I got a membership to DPC.
It was so surreal as I walked to the beach, it was all there and I knew exactly how I wanted it too look, which was how it came out and how it looked to me. It was also the first chance I had to really try my D200. I realized the clouds were moving quick and I knew if I waited there would be a moment where the sun would just break through to spill light onto the sand. And I was able to fit so many elements of composition into one photo. It makes me want to shoot photos, when I get stuck I visit this shot.
