Hello all,

I recently received an email from someone at a PR firm who saw my photos on Flickr. She told me she was interested in hiring me to take some candid employee shots near where I live. She also asked me for my day rates. Being 16 years old and having no professional photography experience (other than a gallery exhibition at my high school), I was very flattered, but I have no idea how much a photographer charges for something like this, let alone one with no experience. Can anyone help me and give me some sort of idea of how much I should charge for my services (if she is still interested in me)? Would I also be expected to burn them on a CD, etc?

Thanks in advance,
Joseph

your best bet would be to contact her and tell her you are very flattered that she liked your work, that you are 16, and that you have no experience, but, that if she would like to work with you, that you are game. ask her how much they paid the last time they had something like this done, and if it sounds good, take it. ask her to be very specific as to what she's looking for, because you do NOT want to commit to something that you are not equipped to handle.

this may or may not work out, depending on what she's looking for. it might be that she's assuming you are an existing business and used to such things. this is a little different than shooting portraits on the side. in terms of being set up as a business, you have a lot more flexibility shooting semi-professionally for people than you have shooting for businesses. setting yourself up to perform business-to-business services isn't really the type of thing you throw together in an afternoon.

good luck!

Thanks Skip. That was really helpful advice. I basically sent her an email saying that if she was still interested in me considering my level of experience, I was very interested in negotiating a deal with her.

cool beans
