I drive a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS with 135K miles.

It's an OK car, but overall, I'm quite disappointed in it.

For the size and performance, it should get much better mileage, but I can't get more than 27 mpg. Why do Hondas and Toyotas of similar weight and size get 35-40 mpg?

The front brakes suck. I mean they stop the car OK, but the rotors warp like mad and they are not machinable, so a major part of my maintenance costs have been in replacing brake rotors.

The throttle response is abysmal. If I need to pass on the freeway, I press the accelerator to the floor and have to wait about 1.5 seconds for the car to actually begin accelerating. It's always been this way, so I don't think it has to do with age. Also, when trying to move the car slowly (i.e. backing out of the garage or pulling out of a drive, the throttle is jumpy, meaning that it's either not enough to move the car, or the car jumps ahead.

I bought it because I needed a 4 door vehicle and I got a good deal, I only keep it because it's paid for and I don't want a car payment.

a lerners permit and you're gonna get a bmw? i am a firm believer that your first car should be a clunker...you need to work up to a nice car like my 75 pinto that was my first...anyway heres my car

haha! why should i get a beater as a first car? When I can get something better and will last much longer?

Because when you're done with it, it will be a beater.

I ride my bike and walk a lot, but admit I have an ongoing love affair with my SAAB 9-3 (nicely worn in; it's a 2000) and our weekend car - a fun little BMW Z-3. There's something about driving fast with the top down that can't be beat, especially down here in uber-sunny South Carolina.

Edit to add: I'm a firm believer that your first car should be a clunker, per above. My first was a lemon yellow Subaru station wagon we called the Yellow Submarine. I had it till the rear axle suddenly dropped completely out one morning with no warning. Still kind of miss that thing. Lots of good times with my high school friends.

I know what you mean, my family considered me a traitor at first. They accept me now after a couple years have passed. I think it was the size of the Impala that swayed me, very close to the B-body Roadrunner. Of course a lot slower but I'm getting old and slow myself...

How can you have OnStar, a GM product, on a Ford?

That's like saying you have a Nikon DSLR with a Canon CMOS sensor.

I've got a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. My wife has a 2006 Ford 500.

Gotta love having a relative that works for Ford so you can always get the Family and Friends discount.

2007 Charger R/T. My first brand new car at age 45.

1st car was a 68 Cutlass white with rust trim. Couldn't put anything in the trunk because in a corner it may fall though the fender.

Because it all likelihood it's true.

Why do you think young drivers have skyhigh insurance rates? Because they run into stuff, that's why.

Playing bumper cars in the parking lot doesn't keep a nice BMW looking nice.

Most teenagers think they're good drivers, they also believe they're bulletproof too.

Aside from all of that, BMW's, even used, are pretty pricey vehicles. They not only cost more to buy, but they cost more to insure (especially for teenage drivers), maintain and repair. Why not save some of your money and buy photo gear, save for college or taking your girlfriend out.

I know I`m good because my girlfriends dad who is a well seasoned driver has taught me and says im good, i don`t think im bulletproof, i don`t do stupid stuff while im driving, i have never sped once, im a careful driver.
and I already have a BMW here ready for me to buy, it was imported from Japan and its in very good condition, everything has been tuned up and the timing belt was just replaced, its a BMW 320i convertible, im getting it for $8500 CDN which is a really good price. I`m buying a car so I can be independant and do whereever whenever, I have enough gear to make me happy right now, having a vehicle will open up doors for me in the photography business aswell, and I have decided to not go to post secondary, and i take my girlfriend out all the time already thank you very much!
