I haven't actually had the chance to go shot anything for this yet. But, this is something from my portfolio with blur that I'd like some feedback on. I wanted the motion on this...

In response to the discussion about what makes a blurred shot works, along with not wanting to shred people for whom their shot sings, I humbly submit Bear_Music's comment on my first entry in this thread:

I encourage all of us to put in our photog's comments what we think about our shots, as a launching pad for others. For example, my first shot was pretty much just goofing around, in the mode of "I wonder what that would look like." My second involved more thought, and today's is the result of both some thought beforehand and some playing around with processing.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/60862/thumb/565968.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/60862/thumb/565968.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I've just whipped through the thread, popping in to comment on thumbs that grabbed me.

I am STUNNED at the talent shown here, the emotional strength of the shots, and the variety of ways blurred shots hits me differently from perfectly sharp ones. I still like the latter, but I'm already gaining a much stronger appreciation for blur. It's pushing me to really think about what I enter here.

So, to get the conversation going, I see a few patterns:
- blur emphasizes shape, texture, and color more than sharp shots
- blur can produce very strong reactions, at least in me, because it often makes a shot feel like a dream
- blur can challenge how we view the world, because it makes us look harder at the image

I agree and to add to that I believe its because it leaves the image open for interpretation, I think maybe when we are commenting on these images we should really try not to look at the comments others have left before we leave our own. (that, and i need to comment more :) )

I'm definitely looking at other's remarks AFTER I speak my peace. I have to agree with Jeff that this is an amazing experiment in expanding our visual horizons and way to look at a not so tack sharp world. ;~D

thanks for bringing up these points. i very much agree. i've never been so excited about any photo challenge before ..ever. and today i started thinking of why that may be. i think it goes along with a photo comment i got a long time ago: "I love that you have seen the potential in this image and not just skipped past it like most people would have." being amongst people who are looking deeper, seeing deeper, and living deeper is a pretty darn cool thing.

That and you have an incredible amount of talent in this type of photography. I have started really look forward to what you are coming up with every day. You have inspired me to want to get better at it -- thanks :)

Well said Jeffrey. I'm absolutely loving this blur challenge! I'm finding myself fascinated with finding how much of the details of an image can be removed and still keep the story of the image. I've been surprised that in many of the images here the story is stronger for the lack of detail, testament I think to the talent of the photogs taking part in this blurfest. So far it's been a surprising and wonderful journey.

My image today is from the same shoot as yesterdays canoes but with a different feel' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65035/thumb/566083.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/65035/thumb/566083.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
