Well, depending on whether we North or South first, I'll either be first or last. :)

I should have been more detailed with the way this is going. I have updated it sorry.

As far as time wise I am thinking 3 days max per person. Or is that not enough time?

Depends what day it arrives ... could be tough to do a 3 day turnaround for a duck that arrives on Monday if we're looking to shoot on a weekend. Unless everyone agrees to overnight ducky to the next destination, it could take close to a week per state -- 2-3 days delivery to the person, then 2-3 days to shoot and get it on its way to the next destination. Depends too on where we plan to shoot, too -- I was thinking of taking ducky to Yosemite, but on a short turnaround I'm more likely to use something closer, like the Golden Gate Bridge.

Have you considered duplicate ducks --- maybe one heading west and the other heading east? We could even have the two meet up somewhere in the middle of the country for a two duck cover shot for the book -- maybe in that lake in Rocky Mountain National Park that straddles the continental divide (half the water ends up in the Pacific, and the other in the Gulf of Mexico).

btw -- great idea Rex, and kudos for the initiative in keeping it going. I'm looking forward to shooting for the project, and watching what others come up with.

It might be worth sending angela_packard and Sonifo a link to this thread. I think they're in Wyoming.

Just a suggestion... If youare having trouble finding a duck I have plenty of them. I have differnt colors and different types. I even have a forth of July duck with Red, white and blue. Its small but it would be easier to mail around. According to your map I am the first one you would mail it to. I could start that way it would end back with you.

3 day would probably be fine most of the time, but I'd just make it a strong suggestion and hopefully some can shoot quicker. Another thought though would be 5-7 days. While that may seem like a lot of time, it would take a year or a bit more but the quality of the photos may be much better.

If there is serious thought about a book, I'd go for slower ducky traveling and hopefully the final product is better because of it. Also, what about some type of commentary by the photographer to go with the picture? Also, if we want a book I probably wouldn't tag the ducky with "DPC".

I have been waiting for someone from Southern California to step in. There are more capable photographers here in San Diego, but since only one person in NoCal has stepped up to represent the most populated state I'm willing to represent SoCal.

Still need these States. I will retype again only one user per state this time. I cannot schedule a day you will have the duck. So please don't say you will be somewhere on this day cause I got no clue when you will get it.

Also to add. I will get a duck soon. I would like to have each photographer write kinda like a small paragraph kinda telling a story of the ducks travels but also keeping it G rated. I will need a name for the duck and am thinking up ideas for that as well.

Wow, based on someone else's estimate of one week per state (which is fair, I think) I may see the ducky around Summer 2008. Perhaps we should have multiple ducks...

P.S. If no one else steps up for West Virginia, I could make the 1 - 1.5 hour drive -- I know some good spots out there and I enjoy driving through WVa.

Why don't we START with one and if it looks like it will take forever we can "cheat." But to me, it's best if it can be done with one. Plus, it will move pretty fast when we're shipping from one state to the next.

Since the Arkansas border is 1 1/2 hours from me, I'll take that one as well, if that's ok.

I can take it to Hawaii with me when I go for 2 weeks in November :D

If so, I'll gladly take Michigan. I'm in Lansing, the capitol, so could get good representative shots :-)
