Q: about Canon 400D/XTi built-in Flash

Last night I was using one of my friend's 400D/XTi and I felt that the built-in flash takes some time to recharge. After taking a shot using flash I had to wait for at least 7-10 seconds before system was ready for another shot, it was keep saying "Busy ", is this a problem or something I was missing.

Was the battery low on charge? 10 seconds sounds like way too long. I just checked recharge on my 30D and its about 1 second with the pop-up flash.

Yes that is the first thing I checked and battery was full charged. I also checked my 20D and it is pretty fast in there also.

that I am not sure abut I noticed that he has sensor cleaning turned on so I am not sure if system was doing cleaning with every shot or not, Also I will ask him about the what CF he has in the system because if it has less speed CF then system might be taking some time to write.

My XTI only takes about a second between shots with the built in flash....most of the time. Every once in a while it will take 5-7 seconds to come back.

Noise reduction wouldn't matter. If it was doing NR, it would be exposing the sensor. And if you were doing a "normal" (read: not a long one) exposure, there's no reason to do NR to begin with. 7-10s is a very long time for the flash to recharge, even my 350D takes about a second. Were you shooting bursts with flash? In that case, I could see that long to fully charge the flash from nothing but otherwise that's not right. Also, 7-10s to flush the buffer of one image to CF? No way, if that's the case then there's a serious issue no matter what speed card you have.

I have the same problem with the built in flash. At first it takes about 1 second in between but after about 4 shots it takes a good 5-6 seconds for it to reload. It seems like forever. I now use a seperate flash if I know I am going to need the flash a lot.
