I'm extremely new here, and just posted my first pic in the POV contest, I'm not even sure if i like it... but it'll be interesting to see what others think!

I'm fairly new but I think this is how it works. For registered users it's a bit different. Both members and registered users can see comments up to the minute but registered users stats only update on the hour (check the upper left of your home page)

You have to go into My Home>My Preferenes

Then you can choose to display your stats on the homepage.

Many refrigerator shots in this challenge. Is there a manual somewhere that says to take a POV picture, you need to take it from inside a refrigerator? :-) I thought that was strange ... or maybe perhaps great minds think alike?

Oooooooooooooo, you all are in trouble now. Wait for the complaints that all these comments made their score tank! :) See it has nothing to do with the photographer or the shot, it's because of forum comments ;)

what killed me was the number of people that took a pic lookin up a tree

I interpreted this challenge as use the point of view to show something not normally scene, or use point of view to make something boring look more interesting. Not just an extreme angle of a normal subject.
I tried to get a macro shot looking into a hole on a bee hive (africanized no less). I wasn't too happy with the pics (with bees all over it was too hard to focus, and lighting was an issue) and it didn't scream interesting point of view so I didn't submit.

My POV shot is quite littoral. I think one take on this challenge, is in recognizing and capturing the absurdities in everyday life, in other words, highlighting something that no one ever noticed before. So I agree that one should take some time in viewing and commenting. But hey, I am on day six of my membership..so what do I know?
By the way, I received one comment and was delighted that someone I didn't know actually thought my work was good!

There's some absurdity and irony to everyone giving their point of view on the interpretation of this challenge ... :-)

I consider the challenge met if the photographer tried some phsyically odd angle OR took a photo that had a strong emotional point of view.

And if I had taken a picture of a walnut, that would have been my point of view in a nutshell ...

Well I get the feeling looking at the shot that people mix up point of view with perspective.

Nonetheless, it's good that people explored different points of view, even the extreme ones. However, I chose a more subtle change in point of view, because key criteria to me is still to have an attractive shot that you would hang on the wall.

Of course, that's just my point of view. ;)

I would be delighted to get just one comment at this point. 83 votes and zero comments. Please, somebody, just go post a comment...even if its something like "You're an idiot for submitting this!". :-)

Edit: I now have one comment! Woohoo! :-)

This is my second challenge, and I'm thrilled that so many people are commenting.. I've gotten a 6.2 avg now, and to be quite honest, I don't think my picture is so good. I've seen a lot of much nicer photos in there, but I guess my point of view was OK. :-)

This site has really gotten me interested in photography! The people here is what makes this site so cool, I learn on a daily basis just by going here.. :-)

Thanks to everyone for having an opinion, and expressing it (either good or bad!)

Yeah, this site is so fun, it's got me trying a lot harder. What's a little annoying about this contest is what illit-Affliction was saying, that there's a whole lot of trees and looking up at the branches. I mean that can be really cool but I dunno, in abundance it gets a little redundant. But there are some really awesome photos in this contest- I made one my background I loved it so much

lizzyc3, I couldn't have agreed with you more! :-)

I shot a really cool picture for the traffic light today, I'm really excited about it..

Btw, thanks for commenting on my picture. =]

Good luck with the upcoming challenges!

POV Details: The position from which something is photographed is the point of view. Be creative with your point of view this week to come up with a picture that is made more interesting because of the point of view you chose.

I interpret the challenge as taking something that is fairly regular and giving it a whole new twist by changint the point of view it taken from. I scored the shots with regular objects that appeared more interesting due to the perspective. The reason I did is because I think it takes a lot of skill to put a regular object in an interesting composition. Be it a tree, rock, grape, nail, or whatever. I try to look at the qaulity of the photo instead of the availability of a certain subject.

The only realy complaint I have really had with people on this site, as far as voting goes, is that if they see an object they don't like because "everyone else does or could" they automatically, more often than not, (this really is not the mass majority though) people will discard these shots because they already have pre-conceived notions about the subject, without looking at the integrity of the photo and taking into account the technique instead of the subject.

Personnaly, I think some of the POV shots are great, granted there are always a few that you just have to laugh at because they paid no regard to the challenge anyways, but beside that, I found that if I take the time to really understand what kind of work went behind the shot technically that I find things I would never notice before. Just remember that every photo has its integrity (for the most part).

PS What ever happened to the 30 second club? I think it is a marvelous idea!

The 30 Second Club was an idea posted in a forum a while back ago that encouraged people to give each photo 30 seconds before considering what to give it score-wise. It's amazing the things you find that you didn't notice when you take the time to look

Great club! I know that sometimes I don't "get" a shot and I'll give a good long look, if I like it I sure will. On those I have no comment(usually those that are fine shots but they don't grab my attention) I don't think I spend 30 sec. on them. Goodness knows there are enough POV shots remaining in my unscored bucket that I could try this out.

30 second club.

I think there are so good shots that lean towards a less literal definition of the challenge. That is to say that it wasnt just the angle the shot was taken with but also what the meaning of the shot. In another words some shots actual express a point of view which I think is really cool & original.

Maybe the system could collect data on the average viewing time for a shot. Wouldn't be accurate, but it would be fun to see the data!
