- Site Administrators, and potentially Site Council, would have access to your PMs (currently they are coded as a "pass-through" and not stored on the site).

Just some things to consider...

If people knew all that a admin or system owner could really do if they wanted to with a users account... ;)

If a user is gone, then it's no different than any other software. If you try to reply to that person you would get a "User does not exist" message. PM's usually only work for active users anyway as they stay on that site.

There are really only two downsides to having internal mailboxes for PM's that I can see... one is that it would have to be programmed into the system. Two, it would take up some disk space. But if you wanted, you could make this a paied membership feature and allocate a couple of megs of a person's portfollio space to e-mail. That way, you aren't taking up any more disk space than a person normally would take up anyway.

This is funny! I was just thinking today how I hate to go through the trouble of PMing a person just to respond to a short comment on a photo like

"did you use blah blah?"

then a PM just to say

"no I did such and such"

an internal PM would help this too I think... that way I'd know they'd see it like a comment instead of sending them a whole dang email for it!

YES INTERNAL!! :)

A regular PM like we can send now would be no option either, because you don't have the email-adress.

If you get a notification-mail ("You received a pm blabla") it would be.

Why is that?! I own a small forum with Elvi, ofcourse it's nothing like DPC, but we can't do that, and shoudln't. There's privacy, you know, and even if you COULD do that, you SHOULDN'T.

How does SC contact a member if they need to validate a submission. Is this also through the current pm system. I often worry (dont know why as my photos are never good enough to require validation) that I will not read my emails often enough and will miss an important validation request.

Personally, I would prefer in-site PMs, because its a pain in the butt for me to access my email address from my office (its buried on the godaddy.com site since I use outlook at home)

it's been awhile since I've gotten one but I seem to remember getting an email (pretty sure it was a pm) and I think a red message under my image on the main page.

I hate internal PMs.

I get notifications in my email from 4-5 different sites that I have messages there - do they TELL me the messages? No. I have to go to 4 -5 different places to actually read the stupid things.

Dumb.

I like the fact that DPC stuff comes to my email. I have a filter that puts it in a DPC folder - I know where those messages are.

I would like an option to quote the PM in my reply...

If any change is made to this system (probably will happen since Cindi wants it) give us the option to leave it as is too please.

Why not BOTH?
Notification of an internal and the actual PM.

For some reason, I can't get my private messages. I have everything checked correctly, unless I am overlooking something.

Yes, it is sent to your email of record, but there will also be a small notice posted under your entry on the front page, where it lists the current score.

most email clinets i have used - mainly outlook express or outlook - have a means to organize incoming emails based on criteria you set up.

for instance - for dpchallenge. i have a rule that says to put any incoming mail from the 'dpchallenge.com' domain into a folder called 'DPC'. it works on the same pricipal as a spam folder.

in outlook express - tools >> message rules >> mail

and the rule reads something like this:
if senders address contains dpchallenge.com move to folder DPC.

i use similar rules for betterphoto, photographers direct, as well as my domain - route108.com. my friend contacts are generally color coded in the main inbox.

I would also prefer a PM system that is internal to the site. My home email is also my work email - for 2 businesses. The mass of DPC-related PMs often get lost among other emails OR worse... work emails get lost among the PMs. Keeping them in separate places would help me a lot.

I'm not sure if the sender is the same for PMs as it is for other email communication for the site so you might want to check your filters to see if you are blocking emails with sender 'DPChallenge' or messages with a subject line like 'DPChallenge Private Message from '.

The PMs come from a separate email address than the administrative emails, but I can't remember right now what it is (I'm at work and can't look it up). See if you can get your spam filter to accept anything which originates in the dpchallenge.com domain.

Well I noticed the problem when I went from dial up to broad band (thank you Windstream for hooking up my hizzy finaly)..so maybe it is in my spam filter, I just gotta figure out why the spam filter lets in spyware and not PM's from dpchallenge.
