I'm an amateur at web design but I just uploaded my sister's art website with updates & new art pieces. Would love to hear what people think, how the navigation is & if there are any areas of improvement that are needed.

Could always use advice on how to make it better. Much thanks in advance!

By the way, psycho is short for psychology.

Pretty good. It's pretty interesting and your sister obviously has a lot of talent. I love her pencil work. I have some comments for you to consider. The first thing is correct your spelling and adjust the type layout. Part of the text is cut off. I find the method of transition from photo to photo to be a little distracting. Maybe a smoother blend would work better. Also is the Acrylic gallery supposed to be missing? Maybe that is for later. Anyway, if I come up with some more thoughts I will let you know. It is a good start and I know how much work these sites are.

Tim,

thanks for you tips. I will go over the spelling. I really hate that. I thought I had caught all of it. No the acrylic is not supposed to be missing. Gotta check if it's my end or what. I'll try to tweek the transition as well.
Thanks again.

Another thing, jsut for clarification, type layout is the box with text?

I agree that the font needs to be changed. I understand that it looks like a psycho font but it is very difficult to read. Also, when you click on an image to see it in more detail it opens up to full screen but the image is no larger. The new image should be larger so it can be seen in more detail. Just a few comments without going to far into it.

I enjoyed the art work! Nice layout but I really didnt like having to struggle to read all the text its a little too wierd. And for people with dial up its slow loading, so if theres maybe anything you could cut down in size like moveable type it would help.
But in all the rest its a good site!

Actually the photos do get bigger. You just have to click on a photo once you are inside a gallery. Make sure you have any pop-up stoppers temporarily turned off so the second window can load.

In the first paragraph you have used the word incite which means to move to action : stir up : spur on : urge on
I think you mean insight which means 1 : the power or act of seeing into a situation ;
2 : the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively.

I did not read past the first paragraph as the font is so hard to read.

The art is beautiful. Your sister is very talented.

Pretty good job. I do have one suggestion that I don't believe anyone has mentioned. Instead of using the Java Applet for each gallery slide show on the main page, you might just try using a faster loading javascript. There's a good one with a demo available at:

//www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex14/fadeinslideshow.htm

This slideshow will fade in and out and might not be so distracting. It should also load faster than the Java Applet as it preloads the next image while the current image is showing.

I didnt realise that it was so hard to read. I picked it only bc it was designed after the work of the artist Henri Matisse. Inf act the font is call Matisse. Anyway, I switched it up. Working on the other suggestions by folks... stay tuned!

Oh yeah, thanks so much for taking the time to help me out here!

I would suggest putting a one cell table around the whole thing and setting the width to 100%. That should fix the problem of your text going out of my screen.

I have my screen size set at 600 x 800, so I have to scroll left to right to see the whole page.

cshep, thanks for the link... working on getting into the site.
Jd..., looking into that as well. Kinda hard 'cause I'm still trying to figure it all out. Stay tuned folks. Hope to make all the suggestion happen.

Thanks again everyone!

What exactly are you coding it in? Doing the HTML yourself, using an editor?

No, all that HTML stuff is WAy too complicated for me. I am using Frontpage. I taught myself how to use it so I am still trying to figure everything else out. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Lose the java applets. I think they're causing layout problems.

A static image representing each category I think is fine.

You should left justify the text and use a more standard font like Arial or Helvetica for readability purposes. And antialias it.

It's usually not a good thing if you need instructions on how to navigate a site. You're navigation is pretty straight forward so I don't think you need to put any instructions.

You should put the full size images in their own seperate HTML pages with the ability to navigate back to the thumbnails or to the next and previous images.

Also, I don't get why the image in the upper left links to a picture of a dog.

Some nice artwork.
