I have two smudges on the LCD monitor on my camera. Any advice as to how to clean this? I think it may be oil from a finger or something of that sort. Thanks.

I clipped this from a response to the same question. This is supposed to be in Apple's instruction manuel. Anyway, I have seen this same formula in lots of places. Always a good check is a //www.google.com search :)
1 part isopropyl alcohol (from drug store) and 1 part water
Spray on VERY soft, non-abrasive cloth lint-free cloth -- like an old cotton t-shirt.
Misc. Notes:
- Don't use Windex-type products.
- Don't spray directly on the screen.
- Don't use paper towel or kleenex since they contain wood fiber.
- Be sure cloth has no grit on it.

we are talking the 1 inch little LCD on the back of your camera, right ?
It isn't quite in the same league in terms of something to worry about compared to an iMac or laptop screen, at least to me.
I use the corner of a t-shirt, without any dirt/ grit on it and don't stress about it a whole lot - I try to treat my lenses with a bit more respect but the back of the camera and LCD gets my nose on it a lot (the joy of being a lefty in a right handed world) so I don't have time to fuss with it. No problems so far, and even if it was scratched, it isn't going to effect the picture quality one iota... |

I still say its ok. You are not to use things such as Ethyl alcohol, but there are lots of "How To" columns that say Isopropyl Alcohol is ok when mixed to 50% with water. Although most DO refer to LCD screens, wich might be different then the camera's. I don't know. Anyway, sorry for the confusion :)

I believe the LCD on the back of the camera is covered with glass, a small plate over the LCD. Not like a monitor LCD. I just clean it like a window, or my glasses. Just take a little extra care if your worried.
It could be plastic even.

leave it greasy as its only going to get marked up with finger/nose prints again the next time you use it.
i tend to just wipe mine off with my shirt most of the time...
doesnt seem to hurt it, and its also swinging against my shirt any time i am walking around with it anyway...

Digital Camera Magazine has a free lens cloth giveaway this month. On the lcd you can use any glasses lens cloth as long as it doesn't have any chemicals.
