Widow Skimmer

I had my four-year old with me yesterday. I had gotten him a cheap digital camera so that he could take pictures "like Mommy", but while I was getting shots of this dragonfly, he proceeded to remove the rechargable batteries and toss them in the tall brush. Little chance of finding them, either.

I never seem to get them to hold still for even a second -- any of you want to share some secrets for getting fine shots like these?

Dragonflies are one of my favorite things to photograph and we have quite a variation around me:

Y'all prompted me to process and load some of my dragon/damselfly pix. My husband does not understand how I can get preoccupied photographing mere bugs, but some of these guys are GORGEOUS. I even know the names of a few of them (scientific, not like, "John" or something ... sorry, I make bad jokes when I'm tired, and it's been a busy weekend).

Secrets to photographing them ... long fast lens, hanging out near watery places with lots of vegetation (like swamps), and lots of patience!
