The only railroad and major highway between Montreal and Toronto are going to be blocked by Aboriginals on Friday and the rail company is cancelling their service and the police don't plan on stopping them. Ridiculous.

I'm a tree hugger...
but I think you should at least honor them on that day, if not listen to what they have to say, by finding a way around their protest. Maybe they have good points, or at least have the passion for something to protest. it takes guts to do stuff like that.

again...I'm just a tree hugging kid

I don't mind if they are trying to make a point but by inconveniencing that many people is just wrong.

that is their whole point though. I'm sure if their voice would be heard without inconveniencing people they would have no need to do it. I'm off to do some background study on this group, very interested in their cause.

It'll be interesting if the police don't do anything, considering that the protesters have said they'll be armed in the event the police try to prevent their protest.

If the police don't do anything what does that tell anyone else with a cause? That if you threaten violence you can break the law and the police won't intervene?

here is their website. From what I have read so far they don't sound like that bad of a group. They are not fighting for much. The number one thing on their current issues is the whole c-44 bill. I'm not candian so I don't know that I understand it perfectly but I think they have a right to be upset. if you read their proposal they don't like it because of three things.

"44 falls short in three critical areas:
1. It fails to provide any measures to safeguard and balance individual and collective
Aboriginal and Treaty Rights for First Nation peoples;
2. It lacks a realistic transition period for First Nation governments upon the application
of the CHRA; and
3. It provides no consideration for the potentially significant organizational impacts on
First Nation governments resulting from the application of the CHRA, particularly in
relation to critical capacity necessary to ensure the successful implementation and full"

I think that is a good reason to be upset, this proposed c-44 is going to majorly change their lives in a way that doesn't seem to be very good for them.

that is also a valid point, but from what I read it's not the chief that is calling for violence, but someone lower then him. I think I would take issue with someone trying to directly defy the chief.

edit for typo

people protest to get others to listen. by doing this, obviously people will listen to what they have to say.

good for them!

What they are planning on doinf is illegal. Peacefull protests are fine but blocking off major transportaion routes and planning on arming themselves to fight off any police action should be condemed.

I would agree whole heartily with the whole arming themselves thing. There is a line, and when you cross it you need to be stopped. Those police officers have families. In no way should they be arming themselves, or ever talk about it. That is just tainting the public view of their cause.

Without protesters though, think of all the great things that we wouldn't have. I'm not really any sort of history buff, but I don't really know much about Canadian history at all. I do know what i was told in school though. Without protest, there would still be jim crow laws, and slavery, women wouldn't have the right to vote, and who know where france would be without protesters. legality aside, it's an important part of shaping the future

If the railway were suddenly blocked by a landslide or other "Act of God" would you ask the police to arrest God for "inconviencing " so many people?
