Well I am assuming you all are (presently) talking about me... so yea - that was from the same shoot. Now everyone knows that I - MK153 - am no where near a ribbon for the neg space.

People are commenting DNMC - could those of you that stated that elaborate?

The challenge reads "Use the surrounding space of your subject to create the wow of the photograph"

It says nothing that the negative space must be left blank - could you explain?

BTW - I really appreciate all of the kind comments about both of my photo's - thank you.

So who should get voted down? Same subject, same light...

Why does either need to get voted down? They both are very nice shots. I wasn't trying to get anyone's ire up, it was just an observation and I was curious. Sorry! :)

These are all very similar, yet different examples. If you laid one over the other, they wouldn't look near as close to one another. The one I noticed is even taken from the same distance, lol. Again, it was just an observation and not meant to piss anyone off.

I'm certainly not pissed off, just wanted to add something to the discussion. :)

Is the bar still open?

Ive done it and had success with both shots, but I realy like the location and feel that I have at least another 2 or 3 more shots at the same spot in me

Personaly I think if you can rethink the same thing over & over it shows more skill.

Interesting thread - I think this may have started with my comment to a photographer about same subject, same location in two back-to-back challenges. After reviewing his work, I see he has great variety and excellent pics of various subjects. What hit me when I saw the similar photo was the idea that he was "narrow" or milking a good thing. But, bottom line, it doesn't matter. Either it's good or not.

I get frustrated by seeing much of the same material - flowers, flowers, flowers--- I'm looking for creativity, change, challenges. I want to learn and expand. So, when I saw the similars, I thought "limited," but he is far from it.

I'm learning - rate each photo or submission on its own merit. nothing more, nothing less.

Great discussion and insight---

-bec- and I have done it a few times. Last month I think it was we used the same model in 6 different challenges! People did start to recognise her but still didn't know which of us had submitted the entry. I think as long as they're judged on their own merits it's not a problem!

If it's not blank, then it's not a space, is it? If the entire image is filled with complex objects, then there's no negative space at all. I didn't comment on yours, but I'm pretty sure that's where the DNMC comments are coming from.

They're probably Amish, btw. No fair taking pictures of Mennonites! That's MY thing! I need to go down to Dayton and terrorize the Old Order Mennonites. I haven't done it in awhile. :D

I don't mind the same setup or model as long as I think the voting will be fair.

I figured they were Mennonite, because the Amish in our area never seem to wear much of anything brightly colored at all.

I saw some Amish this afternoon while swinging up to my parents' house, and in honor of July 4 they were dressed patriotically in blue, blue and blue...
