Does anyone have one?? I'm looking at it because I am about to get hired on to an airline and will be doing alot of flying. I will be flying standby so I don't want to check anything. I need something that will fit in my bag and can hold my 20D and lens.

Does he like it...does it hold the weight good without slipping?

dunno if these work any better, but i was at work the other day, ritz camera store, and i played with one to see how well it worked. my synopsis, not well. it didn't hold on very well and i could see of you were trying to adjust your camera how it might wiggle loose :/

If you use a ball head I don't think you'd have a problem securing it pretty well - yu can even tighten it with a flat-head screwdriver if you need to. I think this thing is great but just remember that you are securing very expensive equipmnt so you need to be sure that it isn't going to slip when you have it wrapped around a railing over niagara falls.

I have one and use it all the time. It does start to shake loose on the Panasonic because it's a larger camera. I just tighten the lock back up and I'm good to go. It's much more convenient to travel with.

Haven't tried the SLR version yet. I have the smaller gorillapod for my point-and-shoot, and love it to death. I use it for taking shots form 'odd' places on the model railroad, so you just crush and bend the legs around scenery to get the kind of shot you want. Since it's not as stable as a fix leg tripod, I often use the self timer to let any hand vibrations settle out before it snaps a photo.

Elvis is right: I have it and I LOVE it. He's also right that I had the middle version, called the SLR. I used it for my Canon S2 IS.

I just got the SLR Zoom version, and I've put my D200 on it with no problem. That version comes with a normal tripod screw and an adapter so you can put a ball head or other small tripod head on it.

I found a package at Cameta camera through Amazon that included a small ballhead from Slik for $70.

I'd recommend that setup (whether from that company or not) because it is a little difficult to get precise aiming with the normal connection. With the ballhead, it's a snap to get the legs set where I need them and then point the camera.

I'm not sure what people mean by "wiggle loose," but it's always been very secure for me.

As a final endorsement, I've been carrying my SLR-sized one (the medium one) in my backpack for months, and it's come in handy more than once.

I *want* one, I'm just having a hard time finding one. I have cash set aside for it, so I've been looking to find one locally, rather than buying it online, but nobody seems to have them in stock around here. I spent an entire morning driving around to find one without luck. I've seen a number of places that have the smaller versions, but I want the bigger SLR version. Bah.

I don't know if it's true, but someone told me REI carries them. Do you have an REI in your part of the world?

I have this on my birthday/Xmas list :)

Why are you working so hard to buy locally? You can just buy it directly from Joby if you want to avoid a middle man. I haven't found prices better than their online store.

Edited to add: you DO want to pay attention to the weight limits for each model. My D200 pretty much sagged right away on the SLR version, but the SLR Zoom version holds it quite well.

Edited a second time to add: the Gorillapod lets you do things you can't do with a normal tripod just from being able to bend its legs around odd objects. But it also can help you stabilize a shot in low light. For example, for this shot, where I wasn't allowed to use a tripod, I basically used my chest as the "surface" on which the legs rested so I could still use the viewfinder, but it wasn't completely loose in my hands:

Because I'm trying to pay *cash*... it's awfully hard to stuff cash into my CD drive and transfer it to online retailers :)

I bought mine at REI, too which is same price online but actually cheaper since the price of shipping is higher than taxes.

Alan, there are 2 REIs on PA where you can show them your money. ^_^

Yup... just called them a bit ago, but they don't carry the big honkin' one that will hold 6+ pounds. I just weighed my camera, and with a medium size lens it's already over the 2.5 pounds the SLR version is supposed to hold.

Perhaps I'll be whipping out the plastic after all...

I'm toying the idea of getting a couple of the SLR ones to use for sticking flashes in interesting places, they seem like they'd work well for that.

I have the SLR Zoom version and have found that it is not that useful, at lest for me. I recently took it on a 9 day trip to Florence, Italy and only used it once. I found it was still a pain to carry around and that in most situations I could brace myself and / or my arms and do almost as good. With that said it seems it should be handy as it can attach to all sorts of things. It was just that every time I needed to use it I could not find a good place to attach it or stand it. It now sits on my shelf at home.

I just a data analysis...looking at computer all day. Free airfare is awesome though. Hopefully will be getting more photos than just the Dallas area in the upcoming months.

Just got mine (from B&H) today... one dumb question, though... where would I find the screw adapter amongst the packaging? It has the regular screw to go directly into the camera, but I can't seem to locate the adapter that would be used for a tripod head...?

This is kind of off topic... but did you have any problems with WMATA police like this guy did?
