Let me know if you try the sRaw settings. Just read about it being around 2.3 mp. Would that be raw lite?

Anyway, supposedly for the sport\action shooter.

I'll say this, I love my D200 and have never once thought of getting rid of it, but ever since the reviews of the 1D Mark III started coming out, I can't read enough on it. It looks like a wonderful machine and if I could afford it, I'd drop the cash on one ASAP. I only hope Nikon comes with a counter punch to compete soon and that I can afford it when they do.

Enjoy the camera. I am jealous! ;-)

I haven't tried it yet... but that was one of the features that convinced me to buy it!

The thing is, very few reception candids will ever be printed at anything other than 4x6". And yet... I love shooting reception candids in raw. (not IN THE RAW - that's different!) It is just *so* much easier to adjust everything before posting proofs.

So, shooting candids with my 5D is serious overkill. 15Mbytes squander away every time I click the shutter. So I mostly use the 20D. BUT... reception's are notorious for their low light. And so, in some ways, I'd much rather use the 5D. What a quandary!

Then along comes the MkIII with usable ISO 6400 and 2.3Mb Raw files. It's like Manna from heaven!

Anyway, I'll definitely be trying it out and let you know the results.

Come on man, how much of a quandry is it with 8GB cards at 80 bucks? ;)

It's not the CF card that's killing me. It's the hard drive space at home. I'm growing hard drives at a phenomenal rate!

I used to back up my weddings to DVD. But my most recent weddings would require upwards of 10 DVDs each, just to back up everything (engagement pics, bridals, wedding, reception, slide show, edited PSDs, etc).

At the current rate, a 300G hard drive is full with only 7 weddings on it. Then I have to buy another one. I back everything up. Unplug the hard drive and put it away. It's a heckuva lot quicker than backing up to DVD (especially if you ever have to restore the photos to do additional prints down the road).

Thanks, I'll check it out!

I always buy my Memory Cards in person at local stores.

This is the sexiest thread on the entire DPC site IMHO.

***DROOL***

You scare the heck out of me with your talk about 7 weddings per 300GB HD... That's the sort of thing I would do... but i don't even have my first monster drive yet. Still juggling DVD's and my 40GB external... zipes!

PS, 8GB for 80 bucks... wow. that's great! that's a fair bit cheaper than I can get a 4GB for around here.

I dunno about sexy... but it's sure to cause some definite hard core lust! :-)

It scares the livin' daylights out of me! And the thing is, I've had people help me with weddings and that just multiplies the number of cameras that are firing at the same time (and amount of space taken up).

heh...

Just wait until you get three 1D Mk III's. You'll have to get a VIP card from Western Digital HD company. ;) Buy 10 get 1 free.

oh yeah. you might be getting better AF performance with center because the center point is almost always the best of all of them. The center point generally has sensitivity on both horizontal and vertical, giving it generally a lot more accuracy. the other points are usually only one direction for sensitivity.

Hope you you are not having any issues but you might want to keep an eye on this.

That's a cool camera, I've looked at the extensive brochures of it.
Yes newegg.com has some 8-GB CF cards. I haven't heard of 2 of the brand names, "A-Data $84.99" and "Transcend $92.99".

I prefer name brands like "SanDisk Extreme Ultra IV"

For fast saving from high fps cameras shooting fast action, stay with the faster CF Cards. These mentioned here are 266X/40MB/320Mb per sec. speed. Of course, you'll fill up your cameras buffer.

Mine can take about 14 RAW+JPG-Fine (17-MB Total each shot, at 5fps/10.2 MP) in a row, then pauses to empty the buffer. In your case, to empty the machine gun clip!

...I was right! "10 fps continuously with a maximum burst of 110 shots" That's a Tommy Gun. (our TV set, NTSC-Video is 29.9 fps)

In Computer world, that equates to, you can also create more garbage faster. More time to sift through them, until A.I. software comes of age.

Edited: actually, that's j-just 30 RAW or 110 JPGs

Yeah, I've been following RG's posts on the subject. I haven't decided yet if I simply don't have the issue, or if I'm just not enough of a focus-connoisseur to recognize the problem.

As mentioned earlier, I took nearly 13,000 shots over the weekend. Many of them in the hot daylight sun that RG talks about. And I just don't see the focusing problems he describes. SURE, I have some out of focus pictures. In most cases this is because of timing (mine), or because the camera didn't lock onto the subject. But once it has acquired the subject it seems to stay with it.

I've been really pleased! Especially since I moved up from a 20D where the frame rate and "hit rate" on the focus was much lower.
