Ok, I am on cloud 9 right now. I am on vacation at a beach in florida (20 minutes from home, but it's still a vacation), and have my camera and 300mm lens with me, taking bird photos and shots of my kids. In the afternoon, a small plane is flying low, parallel to the beach, when its engine sputters and it turns over the beach and starts to descend. It turns out it was making an emergency landing due to its engine failing. As it passes over me about 100ft up, I start shooting, running down the beach after, it, shooting, etc. I am fortunate enough to get the moment of impact. I share it with my local newspaper, who in turn passes it on to the AP. I had seriously considered entering it in the Transitions challenge ("A rough transition from air to ground"), but this morning, I find it's popping up all over the world. So much for anonymity.

Here's a link to a newspaper in Australia.

I'm stoked!

Brisbane Australia

I will post more when I get home and can process my photos.

That's great! (for you, not the people in the plane, of course.)
Great capture!

Congrats on the great capture!

I'm glad to read that no one was injured. If they said that ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Nobody was injured, I would have been worried!

congratulations, glad you and others weren't hurt, especially while you were running down the beach shooting pictures.

I can still see the small 9 passenger plane that crashed near my childhood home when I was little. My little brother and I just happened to be running outside as it came over and I remember being able to see the bolts and rivets clearly as it nearly clipped our trees before crashing just across the way. The pilot ended up ditching it in a small creek to avoid houses near by, killed everyone onboard but prevented injuries to people on the ground.

Woo hoo! You really were in the right place at the right time - huge congrats on getting picked up by AP! Very glad there were no injuries - looks a little dicey!

Fast reaction - I think I'd have likely just stood looking up with my mouth open and chastised myself for not taking any pictures afterwards!

Once the incident had happened, what did you do to get the photos taken up by AP?

Wow, that's incredible ! Congrats man on the stardom. :)

What are you all talking about?? ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Nobodyposted a thread, so you are all talking to yourselves about nothing!!

Great shot, luckily no-one appeared to have been hurt and you were there at the right time.

Alright, that's a little too well-composed for a shot like that. Please tell me that's been cropped.

Way to go, congrats!
