I didn't see a thread for Week 3 where suggestions were asked for so I thought I would start a new thread where we can try and give ideas that would improve the league in whatever way you would like to discuss. Basically I had these ideas:
In the previous WPL, I really enjoyed looking at the teams page, where each week you could see how each individual person scored. something like this.

I think the used scores were listed at the bottom before but that was the general idea. I found it interesting to see how teams did and now that it is connected to DPC it could link the scores to the images.
As it is right now I don't think there is a way to even see exactly what a team averaged in a given week, broken down or not. To see how close the score was you have to do it by hand.(Correct me if this is listed somewhere.)
The other suggestion I had was to have somewhere after a week has ended to see the how all the teams did against there opponents, team score vs team score. Preferably without our logos so it is easier to read and takes up less space. That all I can think of right now. Any thoughts?
Just wanted to add, thanks for all the work that has gone in to the league so far, I appreciate all the work.

Not a suggestion for week 3 but for DPL 2. I'd prefer if one round would completely end before the next began.

According to the original announcement, this entire season is being considered "beta" and we will be collecting suggestions to put in for season 2.

I think the idea is to keep putting them in the original Administrative Announcement thread ... maybe you should just copy your post over to there.

I was going to ask the same thing. Unless it's green and on the front page I don't know which one it is. The one I see with the most appropriate title is locked.

Yeah, I don't know where he wants them posted now. I guess use this thread until Langdon decides to forward the discussion to another thread. I just wouldn't expect any suggestions to go into effect this season unless they correct a major error ...

Thanks Paul, I didn't think anything would change too quickly. :)

Since this is the unofficial suggestion thread, here's some food for thought. This is by no means a completed idea and I hope people start discussing this to figure out how this could work. (For background, this is my first DPL season). I've found that while I spend a lot of time talking to my teammates, I spend virtually no time interacting with any members from other teams. While I competed against "the composers" and I looked quickly over their profiles, I don't remember any of their names or even any of their photos. Wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow increase the interaction between teams?
My idea is to streach out a round over two weeks (maybe interleaving rounds to keep things running fast). This way, we'll have the scores from the first half of the round in and can use our distance ahead/behind in score as motivation to go out and take more pictures. This last round has my team and another team within 0.01 points from each other. Talk about a tight race. However, at that point, it was too late to do anything about it: all our pictures were already in. Tight races like this are also great opportunities to talk to the other team to get them to post their best photos. There is also no standard way of doing that. Maybe if we had a inter-team thread between us and our competition each round, we'd communicate more and get to meet the other team.
What are peoples thoughts on this?

That's partly why I was thinking that one should end before another began. There's no time for any smack talk. A round is in voting and already two more rounds are in the works. There needs to be a time for the potentially very fun you goin' down sucka and your kung fu is weak trash talk as well as the inner team we need to do better pep talk.

It would also be nice if there was a score card running down the left side under the image search. Perhaps just a small block with some rotating scores every time the page is refreshed. Something like Team X crushes Team Y by 1.2, Team A over Team Z by 0.2. Sports headlines if you will.

Are you talking about the way it was presented in the WPL. Example below.

yeah thats what I was going for! I really liked your layout, I think you had pages listing scores head to head too. It was really easy to see multiple results.

i posted this on another DPL suggestion thread, but I'll post it here as well in case anyones interested : )

It would be interesting to actually split people up in terms of ability, before forming the teams. Then each team has to be made up by choosing one person from each layer, So you get 1 very high scoring, 1 high scoring, 1 medium scoring etc etc

I guess it would have to be done by peoples average score over say their last 'x' number of challenge entries.

This gives a more level playing field in that no team is made up completely of experts, nor is another team made up completely of beginners.

I've seen this sort of approach work very well in sports contests to really mix people together and encourage them to work together across the different 'layers' that can all too easily build up.

Just a thought : )
