The site council is requesting proof on all winning photographs. If your photo places in the top 5 or 10 in the challenge, please be prepared to submit your original image with the exif data intact for inspection by the site council.

You should be maintaining your original images for this purpose. Original images are required for proof of validity. You should also document the steps you take in post processing in case your photo proof is requested.

Excellent positive move on the S.C. part.

Sound fair to me. Top 10 should make sure they have EXIF info ready just in case they move up to the ribbon.

What if a winner is on vacation? Can someone send their original beforehand just in case?

Why must we assume that all winners cheated?

We can't tell who is answering someone's email. If you submit just before going on vacation or being otherwise incommunicado, I think either arranging for someone else to check your email, or asking for an administrative note ahead of time, is a good idea.

why have two been disqualified in the last two challenges?

Maybe because we've been disqualifying 5-10% of the ribbon-winners for the last few weeks.

The rules state you have to have the original image. Asking for the top ten actually implies that we DON'T think anyone in particular cheated, unlike the DQ requests.

I am glad to see this being implemented. I think it will bring tremendous credibility to the photographers here.

There aren't many contest sites that don't validate that the rules are followed. This is a contest with a timeline and a topic. The timeline is an important element.

I think the additional time in the free study challenge for December will also produce some great work. I am having a good time here and I like the variety of challenges of some edits some not. Some allow this some allow that. Keeps things fresh.

I am also very happy with the way the rules and exceptions are written very clearly lately. I have stumbled a time or two in the past challenges because I understood them the way I wanted to. I just wanted to say thanks for whoever have taken the time to write the challenge out clearly, so even I can understand it.

Just tell everyone to keep there original. Its smart to do, until the contest is over.

If your photograph is worth entering in the contest at all, you should keep the original just for the copyrights.

I figured it out! Click on the Challenges menu. On the page which comes up, click on your image -- it will bring up a photo display page with the link to request a note below the photo.

Ok, so I was wrong, I guess having the top ten send originals is probably a good thing, I do wonder if perhaps extending the time for the winners to give originals would help people not worry about winning on vacation.

It does not make them cheaters. It makes people HAVE to follow the rules in the first place.
The non-response thing has been gone over before in other forums.
Here is how I see it. If you are submitting a shot to a particular challenge, and you know when it ends, and you think your shot is good enough to win, place, show, etc., wouldn't you make plans to SEE if you win? If you can see if you won, you can check your emails. If you can check your emails, you can respond. You may not be able to give proof from where you are, but could send an email to explain and see what happens then. Right?
Now, just implementing it for places, you will KNOW you will need to send the original. So, no more, "I got no email" problems.

All medalists in the olypics get tested for drugs....
12/24/2003 01:19:38 AM · #16
I've had so many DQ requests at this point. Never have I been offended by it. I pat myself on the back that someone couldn't figure out how I managed to take the shot without breaking a rule.

The worst thing about the DQ request was the panic to get the picture to the admins. My files are all 17 Megs. It was a chore the first few times to figure out how to get the file to them. Now it's a breeze, you just upload it.

Pretty much all Olympic athletes ... professional race horses too. Now where would they get the idea that a horse would cheat?

That's the spirit! I've only gotten one DQ request under the new system.

Do they do a double blind taste test on that? (C:

I'm not real fond of this rule, my question is how many people then have access to the orginal file that is submitted? One member of site council or all of the council?
