Just wondered who's had the most unconstructive negative comment over the years.

I've had one comment which just read "no" - it was in my lowest scoring challenge but come on... :-(

This is exactly the kind of thread that makes others not want to comment at all.

There is no such thing as a bad comment. If I received 'no' on a photo, that would tell me quite a bit.

I just received a comment that said, "ok". I can't see the expression on your face while you say "ok", or the tone in your voice when you say "ok" and it just leaves me wondering what the hell are you thinking, is it good or bad? please tell me. Anyway, I just forget about it and move on. Would be nice to know what they think though using real words.

There is such a thing as a bad comment, If the person takes a personal shot at a model etc.. It can be offensive if it is someone like your own kid in the photo being called fat or creapy. I know those comments are rare however they do exist.

i'd have to disagree that a no is helpful. it's kinda mean. I got a similar one "ok".

if threads like this make those kinds of commentors not want to comment so be it. I welcome insightful and critical comments. Ok, or no, tell nothing except the person wants to tell you they aren't a fan but doesn't want to take the time to say why. Just vote and move on.

Ok point taken. It annoyed me at the time because of the time I'd taken with that photo. :-(

I was voting on the FS challenge with the keypad mod and noticed that it was placing a comment that just said my vote #. If anyone received that from me, I apologize. I stopped voting and went back and gave real comments. I have since updated the voting script. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I think one word and number comments are unhelpful and if posting about them discourages those types of comments then post away! Saying that these types of forum discussions makes people not want to comment is just silly.

I have an image that made someone go Hmmm. Is that better than the regular one word, number comments? ;o)

I got a kick out of it anyway.

I think a lot of people use them to just increase their stats. I dont think they are helpful at all. Go and have a look at their profiles and see if this is normal for them or how many they left the same and if they do it on every entry then put in a ticket to SC.

It sounds like you have either missed or understood the point. When people post threads complaining about certain kinds of comments, it discourages ALL comments.

This is true whether you find a particular comment type helpful or not.

"aw wook at da widdle babeh. its a widdle babeh! whos a widdle babeh!? you are! yes you are!"

That one has taken the top slot for unusual comments I've received recently.

I've said it before in threads like this, and I'll say it again:

Anytime someone stops to type something in the box below one of my pictures, I regard it as helpful. Why? Because they're using their time to give me feedback about a piece of artwork created by ME. Even one word comments. Even negative feedback. Even words that could be regarded as immature, selfish and stupid observations. Each comment represents a reaction by another person. If someone is reacting to my creation, how could that be bad? Every person is different, and comes to my photo with a unique perspective. However they react is fine by me (I'm not looking for stroking). The fact that they react, I find helpful.

Yet another reason I think there should be a forum section for bitching about voting and commenting. This is getting ridiculous.

SC should automatically lock every thread on the subject.

Oh My Gosh Kashi I looked at the comments on that photo and found one other one that I would have taken offence to!!!! Certainly not useful photographically and all babies are chubby!!!

I dont think that these types of threads discourage commenting, I used to comment a lot but workload has prevented me from doing so in recent months, if I had more time I definitely would comment more, which I am sure is one of the problems that a lot of people have. Sometimes I dont even get the time to vote on challenges I have entered an I dont like voting unless I can do 100% of entries. Also the number of entries recently has made it even more difficult to comment on all of them.

I received a comment "gluggle" and I was terribly offended because it was a picture of my niece. But then I realized that the commentor was drowning and I called the life guard. It was too late, though. Now he's part of the ocean and his comments are devestating.

No, I didn't miss the point. Someone posts here and says they don't like 1 word comments, that does not discourage me from making my usual several word comments and I doubt it discourages other like commentors either.

Really? And who's to judge whether it is a complaint or simply an observation? I think lots of threads on other topics should be locked but I don't bitch and complain about that!

Most comments I think are good in nature. But one bothered me. I took a photo of an Airman who is a Utilities Systems Apprentice down in a sewage lift station. Someone commented that this why you should go to college. that bothered me. I emailed the bloke and told him that I am glad the other person who shares the view of serving in the military wasn't elected president.
