What photo editing software should I be considering?

Photoshop CS2 or CS3 now?
Photoshop Elements: is it even worth it?

Other software? Is there something better or easier than photoshop CS?

I'd like to point out Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. At $90, a fraction of the price of Photoshop, and there are very few things Photoshop has which PSP doesn't.

But, they both have 30 day demos, so try it before you buy it :)

If you want free, yet usable enough try gimp or paint.net.
If you want cheap but pretty good, try PS Elements or PaintShopPro.

If you want the real thing, you might as well go for PS CS3. I don't think it is the most intuitive program out there, but it is THE image manipulation software.

I switched to it because the vast majority of help, tutorials and goodies are available for Photoshop rather than for any of the others.

Nothing is "better" than CS3. It is The Best, but the most expensive and most complicated.

The Next Best Thing is PSPXI. Cheaper and easier to use.

Next is PE5. Not quite as powerful and feature rich as PSP, and a bit harder to work with, but still all most people need... and then some. It is "mini-photoshop".

To me the Best Bang For The Buck is to get Lightroom and either PSP or PE5. You'll drop a bit less than $400, but darn, what a combo! And that much cheaper than just CS3 alone.

Only one other thing might affect your decision- if you want to run actions, the full Photoshop is the only one that will do that. (But PSP runs "scripts"- the same thing).

Just my opinion (yes, I have LR, PE5, and PSP).
