In the Simplicity challenge fifty entries scored 6 or better. I thought voters were displaying the holiday spirit. Judging from the way my Vehicles photo is being treated, I think ole Ebenezer is on the prowl.

I'm personally dissapointed in how many toy cars there are in this challenge. How can people be so lazy and lacking in creativity? And even then, the lighting and focus are off on a lot of them. If you are bewildered about why you didn't get comments, just read this thread, maybe some people don't want to leave the same comment on 50 photos! If the shoe fits, wear it!

I disagree with what you say. Why can't a picture of a toy vehicle be creative? I do agree that taking a good picture of a real vehicle is very difficult because of the surroundings that vehicles are in. Toy vehicles offer more control over the environment and may actually result in a more visually appealing photo. I for one did not have the time to search for the one great capture and settled for a more controlled "creative" approach.

I'm not sure about the whole toy car argument- but the vehicle entries were not really as good on the whole as the water challenge. I found myself really giving an average of 7 in the water challenge- they were just that good. People like water I guess.

Some of the titles were terrible though.
ie: H20= natures liquid form of water.etc.

I am disappointed with the vehicles challenge. I had a picture in mind and when I went to take it the weather didn't cooperate and the "horse and carriages" were not on the streets that day. Bummer because from looking at these photos something different might have done well. I was not inspired by what I saw at all.

Seems like you're saying you didn't have time to take a good photo, so you settled for one not-so-good. I didn't say toy car photos can't be creative (I even commented on one of them that it was), just that most of them weren't - many not only lacked creativity, but showed poor technique.

I was dissapointed with vehicles also. Not with the technical aspects, but with the lack of creativity/originality. There werelots of cars, toy cars, bikes and feet. I had a hard time rating some of the photos. Perhaps a good challenge would be a vehicle with an unusual number of wheels (1,2,3,10,18)

If the challenge was about 2 weeks ago when I was at a car show I would've used a concept car or something.

While I definitely think there are some gems in the vehicles collection, I was still expecting some more creativity. Most people opted for the standard notion of vehicles (cars, bikes, etc), while more interesting variations on vehicles were not explored. I just joined dpchallenge quite recently and thus was not in time to submit but maybe portraying pregnancy as a vehicle for the unborn or maybe even a coffin as vehicle for the dead comes to mind as alternatives. Still a very interesting challenge portfolio though.

Welcome to dpc Joe. Hope some of the upcoming challenges make a better impression on you. We look forward to seeing your submissions.

Somebody tried that and submitted a photo of {edit} or something like that. I found that rather boring. Cynical and negative messages have become the norm nowadays and quite frankly I look for more positive and uplifting messages in peoples art, whether it be music or photography or other forms of expression.

What is so depressing about pregnancy as a vehicle for the unborn ? On the other hand, I think that such a photograph (if properly composed) would have been a valid creative contribution to the 'vehicles' challenge. Moreover art depicts and portays everyday life which unfortunately is not always positive and uplifting.

Well, I jokingly told my sister I was going to submit a picture of a bagel with cream cheese and lox - as I consider bagels basically a vehicle for cream cheese, LOL!

I find the opening statement more than offensive, yes I shot a toy car, but I shot it because of what I could make it look like. It was not average, even though the marks I'm getting are average basically because there were so many toys shot, not that it's entirely obvious. The end result was a beautiful representation of the actual toy...they look COMPLETELY different. .. I'm impressed with my pic when knowing what I had to work with. When the challenge is over tomorrow post your thoughts as to whether or not I'm wrong on this subject. If my pic actually does suck, let me know because I'll have to change my way of thinking!

- Alright, I'm not offended anymore:-)

I fully agree with this last statement. It's ignorance to put such boundaries on art, using your personal tastes to dictate what art should or shouldn't be. I hope that's not how people are voting....there's still artistic merit and the technical side to be considered when judging..

wished i could have entered specific shot in this challenge (that i never took).. was driving down the freeway when a few hundred yards in front of me, i see an old cadillac on fire with police (no fire trucks yet) at the scene.. but stopping on the freeway isn't exactly legal, so i had to pass that opportunity up =\

not to mention, vehicle fires probably aren't the safest thing to be around either

Goldberry, we're all voting on how we react to certain images. Please don't be offended by my initial comment, as my goal was to spark a bit more creativity in our search for photo content.

I recall scoring a few toy shots fairly high, if they made me smile or represented something I'd never seen.

nice capture - i have yet to carry my camera around 'just in case', but suppose i should a little more often

I'm new here and this was the first challenge I voted on. Quite frankly, I found most of the vehicle photos quite boring. I couldn't think of a better comment then take a picture of something a little more exciting, so I didn't comment on the pictures I found boring. Not to offend anyone, but I voted almost all the toy shots very low. MY OPINION: a toy is not a vehicle and that is the lazy way to get into the challenge.
There are so many great real vehicles out there to take interesting and exciting pictures of, why not look a little further then your toy box? I wish I could have entered this challenge but I joined too late. Lets hope "on the edge" doesn't have multiple pictures of toys on the edge of a table...

Just because a picture looks like it was easily done it doesn't mean it was easy. It might mean that I trick you into thinking I used a 10 megapixel monster camera instead of my little 1 megapixel webcam. Unfortunately you don't know until after the challenge is over.

I voted on 20/208 entries. I could not find a remarkable image among them. I'm abandoning this challenge for another to vote on without even approaching the obligatory 20% for my votes to be counted.

Forgot to mention that the $20,000 vehicle in the driveway is my toy.

MY OPINION: a toy is not a vehicle and that is the lazy way to get into the challenge.

judging based solely on your own opinion is also LAZY. There is still technical merit to be considered.
