Type your username for DP Challenge into Google...interesting isn't it?

Try just typing your name. For me "yanko" is used to heavily by other things that my profile doesn't come up high in the results.

my website comes up - but so does another that is using the same name! My domain is shutterpugphotography.com - the other person is using shutterpugphoto.com. When I go to her page, she is also calling herself Shutterpug Photography. How can I find out who had the name first, and if it's me can I get her to have to choose a new name?

I don't think you can unless you're both in the same country. But then you would have to have had registered your name officially, as a company "Shutter Pug Photography Inc." or whatever... or else I don't think there's much recourse for you.

...then again I'm no lawyer so you can double check!

Looks like the other site is in Florida and Linda is in Alaska. If Linda has registered "Shutterpug Photography" as a DBA she should be able to get the other site to stop using it as they couldn't have possibly registered it themselves. The name also should be distinct enough to get trademark protection. Now if it was named Linda Photography and that was also being used she probably wouldn't have any recourse because the name is too common.

guess it really doesn't matter. So far I haven't sold a single print from my web site, and probably never will.

I believe this is because DPC uses subdomains for each user. www brings you to the main site whereas username.dpchallenge.com brings you to the subdomain that is set up for your account. When google "scans" the net, it picks up these associated domains with the www main site.

I've found google to be much better in finding personal sites, especially if you update the metadata.

The first thing that comes up is my own website, then my webshots albums, then DPC.

don't think about privacy but immortality & infamy ..
it will be there long after you die & all your triumphs & foibles will be remembered .. mainly the foibles ..

I seems to be related to some Czech culture centre. A well, it could be worse.
