Mary...ouch! That looks painful. How long does it take for a stress fracture to heal?

I'll be booted for at least three weeks if I'm lucky; 6-8 weeks if I'm not.

and just for silliness.

If it's any consolation, my sister wore one of those things for the better part of 3 years. So it'll be a cakewalk to only have to do 3-6 weeks! Go for the sympathy points... have people do stuff for you. And heal fast!

Hi! Some updatey things. Was looking at where to buy the camera that Deb mentioned, and I saw on Amazon a comment that said that the lenses were very prone to having this error where it wouldn't retract. Did some more looking and there's actually a class action lawsuit against Cannon.

So! Checked out another camera for around the same price that was high on my list when I did the product advisor thing. Here is the Amazon.com link for it - it looks good, but it takes this battery. You can actually buy them together. So I am wondering - does this work just like a normal battery? Are they rechargable? I've never used one before (obviously) so I just don't know. Am I right in thinking levyj413 is coordinating this and I should PM him my address?

Mary, hope your foot gets better really soon!! And... that is seriously the weirdest picture. LOL.

The Chicago GTG was great! strangeghost and I caught the sunrise against the skyline, salmiakki joined us at breakfast, and MayaM and shaileshivyas found us at the Chicago Art Institute, and we toured the parks right there. It was a blast!

Kelly, the battery is indeed rechargeable and they'll send one with the camera - you only need to buy one separately if you want to have two (which is indeed a very good idea!)

Cameras are pretty picky about what kind of batteries you use; you're best off getting the one that's listed with it. On the plus side, that battery itself is rechargeable, so you won't need to stock up on them.

The camera is a good one, check out DPReview, they have full review of it. The battery is rechargeable, you charge it either with charger that comes with camera or in camera i.e. you connect power supply direct to camera. I would think it would be with a charger tho! Yep, I think levyj413 is sorting it out.

Gets a Highly Recommended (just about) from DPReview, but read their review before deciding.

Ref: hywindpost.

I had the 9500 and it just didn't do the job. The 6900Z was one of the best. The zoom on the 9500 was not what I had hoped. The Macro on the 6900Z was great, see my Momma gonna keep you cosy pic, that was the quality of that camera.

The 9500/updated 9600 didn't match that by a mile.

That's the lens all right. NB he says the shot was hand held from his boat.

IMO the 6900z falls well short ot the functions available on the 9600.
3.3megpixels 6900z 9.0megapixels 9600 + a 28-300 nondetachable lens. no dust spots on the censor, and image stableization. raw + jpeg shooting.
We all see cameras differently..

Random question - do you think I'll get a load of dnmc marks if the desaturated part of my image still shows a bit of colour in selective desat?

Yes.

Because the challenge description states greyscale, and if there is colour, it's not greyscale.
