I've always said DPC is a really tough crowd!!! ;-)
Anyway, thanks to all people commenting in this thread, and to everyone here at DPC!!!!
My learning experience here with all the comments, the tough competition and learning from the masters had a great deal to do in my taking this picture. So cheers to all of you!!! And of course I'll never be grateful enough.

The absolute first place winner, a girl from Puerto Rico with an astounding photograph, will be receiving a two week photo cruise to Antartica with a National Geographic expedition. The rest of the runner ups will receive a photo printer and camera kit which will be delivered by the end of the month.

Well this has been on my short list of favs from the beginning. I am not surprised at the least. It reminds me of a matte painting from a great classic movie.

Congratulations on a fine win in a truly rarified competition.

Yes, you came in 103 at DPC but the field was over 700 and you were facing the best of the best for the year. Your mid-6 score was impressive to say the least.

But this win is the most impressive of all. Wow.

You've been here long enough to know that winning an monthly free stusy, and in this case, a Best of the year challenge is not an easy task. My best two images were in this type of challenge. I'd bet they'd ribbon if I could have figured out how to shoe-horn them into a member challenge when I shot them. So any time I'm in the top 50 to 100 in a free challenge, I consider it a win!

I was aware of that and I knew would place not as high as in a regular challenge. Nevertheless this win and the fact that it is one of the most popular photographs in Panoramio at Google Earth have made me proud!

That's great I was a runner up in a National Geograpghic Contest a few years back and still can remember the rush when I got the phone call. Congrats again and best of luck to you in the future :)

Thanks a lot!!!! You're absolutely right about the rush... I still feel like I haven't waked up from a beautiful dream....

Congratulations to you as well, as your photograph is a real insight about the modern world.

Here's my winning picture!

Congratulations on a fine honor in a prestigious publication.

I am discovering that the ratings here are to be taken with a grain of salt. Alot of the people voting do not have DSLR's and vote based on what they like, which is often inferior photos from a technical standpoint. It does seem like the photos that win are fantastic so that part works, but in between who knows what is going on.

Congratulations, Roberto. It is a fine shot and you can be proud of your win.
