does anyone know how to make a true black and white image in photoshop, without making it a grayscale (I want to put some colored things on it)?
If you completely desaturate, you're still left with some reddish tints, which you can see if you put it up against the grayscaled copy of the picture. Also, if you grayscale something and then paste it onto an RBG or CMYK, the reddish tint comes back. And if you specifically take those reds out of the spectrum, then you loose all sorts of details.
So does anyone know how to get rid of this (using PS 7.0)? |

Ive never had the problem. Can PS7 Adjustments>Gradient Map
I find that produces better colors anyways. |

You can put a Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer above your Background image and set it to Monchrome; adjust individual color channels as necessary to get a good grayscale image.
Color objects pasted onto layers above that will retain their color. |
